Happy and Smiling About It!

Photobucket
{one}
We are enjoying our staycation, VERY much. TWO whole weeks with no plans beyond basking in the awesomeness of this guy makes me very HAPPY!!!
Vacay
{two}
I have soooo many great pictures of Camp Vasquez to share that make me super HAPPY! If you are new here, we have 6 of my nephews for a week every Summer. Their mom's go to Girl's Camp and the kids come here. They started calling it Camp Vasquez 4 years ago and we all look forward to it each year.
Photobucket
{three}
I am pretty much brilliant, let me tell you why. I have 12 nieces and nephews. Having 6 of them all at once each Summer made it easy to celebrate Birthdays all at once. So now we buy presents for the 6 kids, (and mail out presents to the rest) and have an UNBirthday celebration at Camp Vasquez. Being done with birthday shopping all at once, makes me HAPPY!!
Photobucket
{four}
This year we bought the boys bird house kits and Big Daddy and Grandpa helped the boys build them. It was about 2 hours of serious work and the boys were HAPPY with their birdhouses and the sense of accomplishment that came with the project.
Photobucket
{five}
Learning more about the community we live in makes me HAPPY. Big Daddy arranged a walking tour of San Juan Bautista, a darling mission town close by. Learning about the rich history was really interesting and the boys enjoyed it.
Photobucket
{six}
Camping out at my in laws B&B is something we did the first couple of years. This year we went back. The boys were HAPPY to pitch a tent in their garden and sleep under the stars. I was HAPPY that my in laws love these boys like they are their own grandkids and went out of their way to make the camp out special...and allowed us to crash their B&B for a few days.
Photobucket
{seven}
Since my in laws live so close to San Francisco we took the ferry from Sausalito (one of my all time fave little beach towns) to the city and spent the day soaking up the goodness there.
Photobucket
The boys were super HAPPY to tour Ripley's Believe It or Not!
Photobucket
{eight}
There is an amazing skatepark close to my in law's home. We have a couple of serious skaters in the family who really look forward to skatepark goodness. They are such little daredevils and over the years have made Auntie's heart skip a beat with their tricks. I have been HAPPY with our 5 year record of no accidents....this year however we experienced our first broken bone. More on that later.
Photobucket
{nine}
The little guys love taking hikes with their Uncle (Big Daddy). I think it's because he is HAPPY to let them lead the way and take pictures of their ninja/parkour stunts and jumps.
Photobucket
{ten}
I am HAPPY that these boys can spend hours fully engaged using their imaginations. The older boys spend an entire day setting up targets in our backyard for their slingshots.
Photobucket
While the younger boys spend hours playing in my classroom/our playroom putting together puzzles, train tracks, building with blocks and doing art projects.

I am also linking up with EmmyMom & Leigh

Marriage Counseling...maybe?

The following post is brought to you by Bellevue counselor, all opinions are my own.

Are you married? In a relationship? Ever considered counseling? Have you ever even discussed counseling with your spouse/partner should the need ever arise? All stuff to think about, no? But where does one start?
Bellevue counselor appears be a good place to consider, their website is amazing...and hopeful.

Not to brag or anything but sometimes my beautiful wife and I fancy ourselves good marriage counselors. Not that we have it ALL figured out but we have really good communication and even when we disagree it rarely, if ever, gets ugly. So we must be doing something right. Right? Friends have often told us that they learn from our example and my beautiful wife often receives comments about our relationship. I want everyone to have the kind of love that we have. It didn't come totally easy, but we both came into this really wanting it to work, so we committed to making it work. That right there is the secret to a happy, healthy relationship. Work. And that requires communication. I realize not everyone is a good communicator, it is something that personally does not come naturally to me. My beautiful wife is an excellent communicator and you always know what she is thinking and feeling, there really are no surprises when it comes to her and I really appreciate that. I have friends who have sought marriage counseling and I 100% support that and my wife and I have both said that if we ever found ourselves in a rocky situation where some sort of third party was needed to mediate we would totally go for it. We happen to have amazing resources, should we ever need them, through our church. But there are sooo many wonderful people out there willing and ready to help couples in need, consider a Bellevue marriage counselor .

The following post is brought to you by LS Men's Clothing, all opinions are my own.

Oh how i love a well dressed man. ESPECIALLY a man in a suit. Big Daddy wears a uniform to work, since he is in law enforcement, and I love him in his uniform but I also love when he dresses up and puts a suit on.

LS Mens Clothing is a Custom Men's Clothier and was voted one of the 5 best tailors in NYC by CBS.

Listicle: Annoying Sounds

I decided to join a link party that Stasha @ Northwest Mommy hosts each Monday
Photobucket

This week she wants us to list...
10 Most Annoying Sounds.

1. Fingernail clippers...that snap snap snap they make *cringes*

2. The doorbell...makes Coco bark, she doesn't know she is a dog, I want to keep her that way.

3. High pitched screaming...I love when kids laugh and have a good time, but the squeal/scream
kills me, only children can make that shrill of a sound, nothing else compares.

4. Mocking Birds...we have one in our neighborhood that starts mocking different alarm clocks at 5am.

5. Loud Cell Phone Talkers...we are in a restaurant/movie/market/anywhere.
Shut your yapper, I am not interested in your conversation, yeah, really.

6. Neighbor's Yapping Dog...All. The. Time. Really, it never stops.

7. Static on the Radio...but I also hate when Big Daddy does the scan/search thing too, I am never happy, just put on a CD (but make it music I like).

8. Loud Motorcycles...I don't get it.

9. Yummy Noises...those smack/chew/nom nom nom/slurp sounds that people make
while eating. Grosses me out.

10. Snoring...this rarely happens in our house but I am a really light sleeper and
when it happens...no sleep for me.

This was FUN...I will be back tomorrow with My Happy List and something a little more positive :) Wanna play? Grab the Happy List button from the side bar, add it to YOUR Happy List and link it up!

Big Daddy Confesses

Photobucket

I confess...My beautiful wife has a migraine and I am not only cleaning up vomit I am keeping this blog party going. I love her, obviously.

I confess... I could work harder at my school papers, but I get a good grade doing as much as I am now, so why bother? I recently started school to finish my degree. It is an online program with a class rotation every 5 weeks. Every class has a major paper due at the end of the five weeks. When I am into the class and the subject I get really good grades on my final paper. Then there are classes that I am not really excited about, I usually wait until the last day to begin writing the paper and turn it in within an hour or so. I still get good grades on those papers. No, they are not as good as the grades on the exciting classes, but I am maintaining a 3.00 GPA.

I confess... My beautiful wife and I are psychically connected. It is true. It happens often that a conversation is started or subject brought up by one of us that the other is surprised to say they were just thinking about or they were about to say themselves. Just tonight, I was in the kitchen getting ready to make a PB&J for me and my beautiful wife. I happened to look at the bananas on the counter and began thinking about Elvis Presley's favorite sandwich, peanut butter and banana. It was at that moment that she asked me to put bananas on her PB&J. Amazing, right? Seriously, it gave me goosebumps.

I confess... I have been on vacation this week and it will continue next week and we haven't done a darn thing. I love it! I have absolutely enjoyed these past few days just waking up and doing whatever we wanted with no plans, no schedule, no nothing. We do have some plans to get some of the house spruced up a bit, but to me, that is just quality time with my beautiful wife.

I confess... There is one thing I planned on this vacation and am proud to say I have been successful in doing. I have run every day. Since my schedule changed it has been difficult getting back into a training mode so I planned on taking these two weeks to start regular training again. I have done it! So far...

Seeing Stars WWTK wk 64

Welcome to We Want to Know Wednesdays Q&A
Hosted by Mamarazzi and Crazymama
null

This week, your's truly, Mamarazzi, is asking (and answering) the questions, that were prompted by one of our WWTK participants!

So The Lovely One asked this question:
The Lovely One wants to know:
{one} What Disney character do you most resemble and why?

And it got me, Mamarazzi, thinking about celebrities and wanting to know...

{two} Who was your teenage celebrity crush?
{three} What celebrity would you love to be BFF with?
{four} Who is your celebrity look a like?
{five} Which celebrity/celebrity couple would you want to portray you/your honey in a movie about your life?

Here are MY answers...I cannot wait to come around and visit everyone this week, I miss y'all!!

So The Lovely One asked a question:
The Lovely One wants to know:
{one} What Disney character do you most resemble and why?
I wasn't sure, so I asked Big Daddy and he said Belle. When I searched for a picture of her I found this one of Belle making dandelion wishes...so I guess we have that in common. Though I would never wear a yellow ball gown.

Photobucket

And it got me, Mamarazzi, thinking about celebrities and wanting to know...

{two} Who was your teenage celebrity crush?
Oh I had a few...my main men were Shaun Cassidy and Donny Osmond tho. I loved that they were cute AND that they were singers. Who do you think aged better?

Photobucket

{three} What celebrity would you love to be BFF with?
I have a more than one. And if I am being totally honest, I am already BFF with these people, in my own mind. I want people around me who make me laugh. ALL of these people make me laugh...a lot.

Photobucket

{four} Who is your celebrity look a like?
Suri Cruise...I think it is the disheveled hair and chocolate croissant. Whatever. She has amazing fashion sense.

suri300

{five} Which celebrity/celebrity couple would you want to portray you in a movie about your life?
I have talked about this on my blog before. But Kelly Ripa and her husband Mark Consuelos seem to have a similar relationship as Big Daddy and I have.

OK so she has zero curves and looks nothing like me, she would need to wear a fat suit or start eating cheeseburgers. She would still be hot if she gained some weight. But I think Big Daddy and Mark look a like a little, right?

Bankruptcy?

We are, unfortunately, experiencing a down economy. Some of us have suffered job losses, personal financial loss, and hits to our investments. When we find ourselves upside down in our lives there often is a sense of despair that makes it difficult for us to see a way out. If you have decided that bankruptcy may be your only way out there are resources for you to educate yourself and make the correct decision for you and your family. For my New York area readers I suggest you check out Bankruptcy Lawyers New York. While bankruptcy is a last resort it is important that you discuss your options with an experienced attorney and to understand your options. An immediate advantage of considering bankruptcy is that any calls from creditors can be forwarded to your attorney and those annoying calls will be stopped or substantially decreased. To get the best advice and most relevant information possible check out bankruptcy filing New York and learn what your rights are as a consumer. Bankruptcy is a serious decision, not to be taken lightly. To understand your rights and options go to bankruptcy filing New York for the best advice on your personal situation.

Guest Post: Tips for Stressed Parents

This is a guest post from Bradley Barks....

Simple Tips for Stressed Out Parents

There’s no doubt about it, parenting is one of the most difficult jobs out there. There are many parents out there who feel an extra level of anxiety or pressure to be perfect. When you add extra stress to an already stressful task, it makes everything just that much harder. Often, parents will let their own needs suffer because they are focusing so much of their time and energy on their kids.

While it is great to spend time and money on your kids, and it’s very important you consider their needs, ironically, it often takes more focus on ourselves than we realize to set a good example for them. In fact, to be the best parent you can be, it is actually important that you take time to relax and enjoy your own life.

There are many reasons why taking care of yourself is an important step to becoming a better parent. Stress has secondary effects of transferring stress onto others around you. When you are severely stressed, you will often exude a stressful energy. Even if you are not speaking, your children, spouse, coworkers, and even your pets, will often feel anxious on your behalf. If you take time to de-stress, you not only make yourself happier, but make everyone around you feel safer and more comfortable.

When you are stressed, your children tend to worry about you if they’re old enough, and you may also have less patience with them. Do you really want to take out your stress on your children? Probably not.

Here are some tips to help you cope with and manage your stress in a healthy way so that it doesn’t negatively impact the lives of others, and so that you can enjoy your time with your kids even more.

1 - Take a breather. Even if you leave the room for 2 minutes, it is important to get time to yourself without noise or distraction. While you do not want to leave your kids unattended, you can also take a moment to collect yourself so that you don’t feel overwhelmed yourself. If you are not able to leave the room at the moment you need it most, try closing your eyes and taking a deep and peaceful breath. Often, this will prevent your stress from boiling over the breaking point.

2 - Have one day of the week or month where you just do whatever you want. Hire a babysitter or ask your spouse or trusted relatives to take care of your children for the day. Schedule time with your significant other, a day at the spa, or time with old friends who you never have time to talk to anymore. Remember, this day is just for you. It may help you to also keep your phone on vibrate, or check it every hour but leave it off for the rest of the time, so you can still be contacted in an emergency, but it will be less stressful when it rings.

3 - Use little moments to reflect on your experiences and write things down so you do not forget them. For example, even though you likely do not have much extra time to keep a journal or work on that novel, if you wake up an hour earlier or use the time you would normally spend waiting for the bus writing in your planner, you will feel like you are getting important tasks accomplished. It will also keep you from forgetting what you need at the grocery store, that funny thing your son said this morning, and whatever else you feel like keeping track of.

While you have every right to feel stressed, you also have no right to let it rule your life as a parent. It's similar to someone with an addiction. If the problem is drinking in that case, the parent owes it to both themselves and their kids to find some sort of alcohol treatment program. Similarly, when you take the time to write down your thoughts and attend to yourself in any way, you will be a much better role model, and have more emotional resources to share with your kids.

I Confess...

I'm doing this from my phone because I forgot to schedule a post before heading to my in laws B&B with our 6 nephews.

PLEASE grab the Friday Confessional button from my sidebar for your post.

I Confess ...

Today included a round trip ferry ride, Ripley's Believe it or not Museum. Clam chowder on Pier 39, art galleries

When I heard my nephew on the phone w his dad this evening I thought I might die laughing when I heard the words
"Dad a walrus penis is 6feet long. You are the same height as a walrus penis."

Yep. There is an actual 6' walrus penis on display at Ripley's.

Add all the nude art in the galleries and you can imagine today's conversations.

To The Market We Go...WWTK wk63

Welcome to We Want to Know Wednesdays Q&A
Hosted by Mamarazzi and Crazymama
null

Crazymama is rad and she sent me this:

I, Crazymama, just got back from the grocery store, where i was shopping while hungry. we all know THAT is never a good idea. add that to some weird cravings i've been having and you get these questions...

{1} walking down the cookie aisle at the store, what do you pick?
{2} would you rather eat chips or crackers? which kind?
{3} what kind of pickles do you like?
{4} what is your favorite candy?
{5} marycate @ http://marycateutah.blogspot.com wants to know about your beverage preference.
Coke....Or Pepsi? Diet Drinkers?

My answers...I probably won't be by to visit this week. I have 6 of my nephews here for the week and we are out and about soaking up Summer!

{1} walking down the cookie aisle at the store, what do you pick?
Nilla Wafers, if I am being good. I know Nilla Wafers aren't a HEALTHY choice but they are a sweet treat that doesn't mess with my blood sugar. If I am being naughty then Mini Chips Ahoy or Frosted Circus Animals.

{2} would you rather eat chips or crackers? which kind?
Chips over crackers A-N-Y-D-A-Y. I like good old fashion Lay's Potato Chips, YUM!

{3} what kind of pickles do you like?
Claussen Kosher Dills...I might be slightly obsessed with them, they are also a main staple in my house.

{4} what is your favorite candy?
Candybar? Snickers w almonds. Candy candy, Skittles. But they must be eaten in order by color. First the green, then yellow, then purple, then orange...the red are always left for Big Daddy. I am a real sweetheart like that.

{5} marycate @ http://marycateutah.blogspot.com  wants to know about your beverage preference.
Coke....Or Pepsi? Diet Drinkers?
We ALL know that Mama needs her tall dark and handsome...Diet Pepsi, from a fountain, over ice balls, in a cup, with a lid and a straw. Hellooooo lover!!

Summer...My HAPPIEST Week, Every Year!

Photobucket

OH the HAPPY this week!!

One of our favorite weeks of Summer is finally here.

It is the week that 6 of my ridiculously handsome nephews for what has become affectionately known as Camp Vasquez!

HAPPY!!!

Today was DAY ONE...it was our UnBirthday Celebration.

You see Big Daddy and I got super smart back in 2007, when Camp Vasquez was born, and came up with an UnBirthday party.

We play games, have cupcakes, do crafts and open presents. HAPPY!!

Some of the boy are getting older. Garrett will be 14 next month and we are coming to terms with the fact that this will likely be his last year at Camp Vasquez.

This makes me a little sad, why do they have to grow up?

But we are soooo HAPPY that Garrett chose to spend this year with us.

You see, he was invited to a Varsity type of Scout Camp and he said, "Nah, this is probably my last year to do Camp Vasquez and I don't want to miss it"

When I learned of this I literally cried.

I felt the love and in THAT moment I realized we REALLY hare a huge part of their Summer memories.

And that makes me HAPPY!!

I have lots of fun pics to share...but for now I will leave you with a couple of links of years past.

Going back and looking at how much fun we have each year makes me sooo HAPPY.

Psssst...I admit hearing the boys tell us that we are their favorite Auntie and Uncle makes me more than HAPPY, it makes me feel like we are doing something right and that they know we love them.

I love this Summer tradition!!

My nephews and Camp Vasquez makes me VERY HAPPY!!

2011 Camp Vasquez...How We Roll.
2010 UnBirthday
2009 UnBirthday

What is making YOU Happy this week? I am so sorry I won't be visiting blogs this week, I am scheduling posts and basking in the awesomeness of my nephews...I know you understand!

I Confess...

Photobucket

I Confess...

I have a cold and I am not very happy about it.

I do not like being sick, at all.

I Confess...

Big Daddy got it before me and he was better in just a couple of days.

That annoys me.

All he ever needs is one good sleep and he is well.

I Confess...

When I get sick it kicks my trash for a lot longer.

But I am trying to get as much sleep as I can, hoping this time I will feel better faster!

I Confess...

That's all I got this week folks...sorry.

I do have a question for you tho...it's Friday the 13th.

Any other day or superstitious?

Three Random and Two From YOU! WWTK wk62

{one} What is your go to spice/seasoning when cooking?

Scriptor @ http://allstarme.wordpress.com wants to know:
{five} Do you keep any little (harmless) secrets from your significant other?

Here are MY answers...I'm looking forward to coming around to read your answers!

{one} What is your go to spice/seasoning when cooking?
Well it appears I am not able to cook anything without garlic salt.  It is just something that always seems to find it's way into the mix.

{two} What room in your house best represents your personality? (brownie points for a pic)
My sitting room. I had a little video of it and I cannot get Blogger to cooperate, but I will keep trying. I love this "room" because it is just a small love seat facing the fire place with my two super cute metal chairs and my piano. The "room" is actually part of my great room where the TV is but it feels like it's own little nook and is a fave place of mine to relax and read.

{three} On a scale of 1-5, 5 being VERY, how organized are you?
I would say I am a FOUR. I thrive on order, but right now I have a pile of laundry waiting to be folded on one side of my sofa and books I have been using to develop my preschool lesson plans scatter on the other side of the sofa. So it's kind of a mess right now, but I am not feeling overly stabby about it, so I must be a 4.

And two from YOU!!

Amanda @ http://mandywho.blogspot.com wants to know:
{four}What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?

{four}What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?
My Mima once told me that they key to her happy marriage was letting the little things go. She said, "Sometimes you just have to love them" I think this is good advice for people with teenagers too.

Scriptor @ http://allstarme.wordpress.com wants to know:
{five} Do you keep any little (harmless) secrets from your significant other?

My life isn't that exciting. I know there are somethings that J has shared with me that Big Daddy would not want to know about, girl junk, so he is on a need to know basis when it comes to that stuff. But really other than that we share everything, I think. Well I share everything, he may hold back on somethings with me, but usually when he does I find out about it eventually, he can't keep a secret for long.

If you have questions that you would like to see used in a future WWTK please use my contact form and send them on over!! Also, if you would like to be on the mailing list for the questions in advance (we usually send them on Monday) let one of us know!

Happy...come what may

Photobucket

This week has been a whirlwind! There is sooooo much happening and then there is nothing at all happening.

Cryptic right?

Have you been following it all on the private blog?

Sorry to be vague, I just cannot go into details here.

Wow. I kind of feel like a jerk not saying anything here...but trust me, I am HAPPY!!

Hmm...well, here is a little snippet..

The hurry up and wait part of Foster/Adoption is hard y'all. It is a roller coaster of emotions and we have been feeling it big time this week.

But we are HAPPY and hopeful and in it for the ride...come what may!

I am also soooo HAPPY to have such amazing friends who support us, pray for us, and are on the ride with us.

MiMi and Myya have been amazingly supportive.

We had to postpone out MiMyMa for a "possibility".

It was hard to make the choice not to go based on a "feeling" but once we made our decision   MiMi and Myya  were behind us 100%, of course.

We all know that MiMyMa is gonna happen, it is just being postponed...and we are hoping it is for a good reason.

Like I said, going on faith and a feeling...come what may.

HAPPY!!!

I am also grateful for an incredible family who are with us through the ups and downs...having so many people behind us, praying for us makes me really HAPPY.

So, I have a little favor...if you could spare a prayer, a good thought, send good vibes, we would really appreciate that.

This poem makes me really HAPPY. It is one that I have held on to for a VERY long time.

I haven't shared it with anyone, not even Big Daddy. Today I feel like sharing.

KISSES IN THE WIND
(The Waiting Child's Lullabye)

I hold you in my heart and touch you in my dreams.
You are here each day with me, at least that's how it seems.

I know you wonder where we are... what's taking us so long.
But remember child, I love you so and God will keep you strong.

Now go outside and feel the breeze and let it touch your skin...
Because tonight, just as always, I blow you kisses in the wind.

May God hold you in His hand until I can be with you.
I promise you, my darling, I'm doing all that I can do.

Very soon, you'll have a family for real, not just pretend.
But for tonight, just as always, I blow you kisses in the wind.

May God wrap you in His arms and hold you very tight.
And let the angels bring the kisses that I send to you each night.
