Today's Blogging 101 Tip is brought to us from Miss Angie @ My So-Called Chaos . She is going to teach us how to back up our blogs.
Anyone with a computer knows that they are always just a hair away from a virus, hard drive crash, coffee spill, or some other kind of accidental terror on the loose (toddlers, puppies, etc.) That means in the span of a few moments you could lose all of those precious memories, your financial data, that novel you’ve been working on, etc.Here in the blogger community, we poor so much of ourselves into pages and pages stored on servers that someone else maintains. Servers are computers similar to any other, and that means they are capable of data loss. Those of you (like me) who use Blogger recently had a run in with this. Their servers were down for an entire day (Just about 24 hours) and several posts were lost. What if your entire blog had been lost? I’ve heard of it happening to people, and it’s scary stuff.Did you know you could back your blog up to prevent data loss? Did you also know that it’s extremely easy to do so? If not, never fear-I’m here to show you!For Blogger blogs: Simply log into your blogger Dashboard and click on Settings:In the Basic Tab, under Blog Tools you can go in and click on Export Blog:From there save the file it gives you someplace safe. I recommend you do this often, since blogs are always changing and updating. I'd also highly recommend saving a copy of that file to an external hard drive-or for a more safe solution-using an Online Backup Solution to back up a copy of it somewhere safe. My personal preference is Mozy, but there are others that back up similarly.
If your blog every crashed or gets lost by logger, you simply use the Import link there in the same location and import your saved file back in! It's so easy and will save you so much heartache!
