Top 5 Bloggy Peeves

The RHOK

I decided to link up with the RHOK for a McLinky Monday. I don't usually post on Mondays because of my Taking Back Monday Giveaways. But I decided there is no reason I can't do both, right? So make sure to go over and enter my SUHWEEET giveaway after you read this post.

The McLinky assignment is to list our Top 5 Peeves...I am going bloggy peeve on this one.

#5 I skip blogs with the auto start playlist. Really, it totally annoys me. If you have a playlist please, for the love of your reader's bloggy audio space, make your playlist an OPTION. If I wanna hear some music I really will push play. I promise. There is only ONE blog that I continue reading who has a playlist on auto start (holla Raimi!).

#4 Word Verification HATES me, and honestly the feeling is mutual. IF you must have word verification on your blog PLEASE use the "pop up" comment box option. It makes life so much easier than having to wait for your page to load THREE times.

Allow me to help you change that.

step 1 settings tab
step2 comments
step 3 scroll down to comment placement
step 4 click "pop up"
step 5 click save settings

#3 I am not a fan of those blog-hop-follow-me link parties. I did one,ONCE. The only people who actually commented on the CONTENT OF MY POST were my loyal readers. I got a million "Hi, I am your newest follower, follow me back!" copy paste comments...GAG! People who leave a comment telling my they are following and never say a word about the post I created kinda bug me.

OH and the people who just come and say, "Hey, I have an award for you on my blog!"

Thanks, but what about the POST I spent the time composing ? Anything? hmph...

And ummm save your "cool post" and "awesome". How about a thoughtful comment?

OK tangent over...phew...moving on.

#2 If I leave a comment on your blog and you don't respond by either commenting on my blog OR respond to my comment via email I probably won't come back (often). It makes me feel like a stalker. If people aren't going to respond to comments they should remove the comment option. Right?

and my NUMBER ONE Bloggy Peeve...

#1 The "no-reply comment" blogger.

What? What is THAT?

Well I am glad you asked.

A "no-reply comment" blogger is someone who does not have their email enabled. Soooo when they blog jog leaving lovely comments on people's blogs, and a notification is sent to those people's email and they are cool bloggers so they want to reply to your comment via email...but they can't.

WHAT? WHY?

Well because instead of your email address in the reply box it is "no-reply comment".

NO WAY! How do I fix that?

Another awesome question. Allow me to help you.

step one go to your dashboard
step two click edit profile
step three click the little box by "show email"
step four click save profile

You. Are. Welcome.

I love responding to people's comments via email...so please don't be that "no-reply comment" blogger. Especially if you ask me a question. Do you really want an answer? Enable your email address, let's continue the conversation.

AND join the bloggy revolution.

It's changing people's lives.

OK maybe not, that may be a bit of an exaggeration.

But bloggers everywhere are enjoying blogging even more.

I promise.

Yeah, I made a button. Grab it and join the revolution. There is even a chance to win prizes!

WHAT? I LOOOOOVE Prizes!!!!

Yeah, I know...most bloggers do.

this is fantastic - I'm leaving the first comment on this post! SCORE!!

Off my high horse I come ...

These pet peeves are very similar to my own - glad they're out there!

Oh and your sarcasm, it rocks my world! Just sayin'!!

I totally agree with the music. I did that once, but took it off. I have one "friend" that has an auto play. I no longer go to her blog and just read on google blogger. If I do happen to go to her blog to comment, then I mute my computer. I hate having to scroll all the way to the BOTTOM of the page to turn of the (insert bad word) music! LOL!

bellabf said...

Yes indeed, I can agree with those peeves. I can tell you take great care with your blog.

Rachel Murphy said...

So glad I already removed those! Who knew... LOL Thanks for all the great help to make me a better bloggy friend. Have a great Monday :)

word verification hates me, too.
I mean, it huthejites me.
(that's supposed to be my imitation of a word verification sample that kinda looks like a word, but itsn't actually a word, and is only there to mock you. three times.)

jenkakio.com said...

HAHA! This is an awesome post.

I agree with you on number 5 and 4. On 5, come on, is this myspace...stop with her songs, cuz only YOU (the blog owner) likes those songs. And why is the volume so LOUD. Haha.

Number 4: I don't mind it the first time, but when I come back to the blog, I wish the computer realizes its me.

OKAY, I think, I THINK...I fixed my no-reply thingy. Sigh. **crossing my fingers** let me know.

Ms.Wasteland said...

Word verification is the bane of my bloggy existence. Seriously, people - just DELETE the spam. It isn't that hard. Or use comment approval for the older posts. That's usually where the spammers hit anyway.

Whew - I feel better now.

great blog post and i try alwayd to respond to comments but i do on my post because half the time when i send emails i get a delivery failure statue and it annoys me. so if you comment check back once in awhile i'm sure i've responded and thank you for all the great tips.

Amy said...

Seems as though you and I have a lot of the same bloggy peeves! And I believe a few of my readers changed their email after my post..yay!

Greer's Gossip said...

I can't stand playlists either!!! Especially when I am at work and try to be sneaky and check out blogs, then those stinking playlists blare and I am caught! :)

Thanks for the step by step on how to enable email. I have told so many people they need to enable theirs and then they ask me how and I can't remember how I did it!! Haha!!

Aubrey S. said...

Preach it, sister. And yay for us being FB and bloggy friends now =) Hope you have a great week!

Shari said...

Oh yeah! You have hit the nail on the head on these. :)

I don't think I am one of *those* people. I think I have all of my options in a row! ;)

PS I do not normally reply back (sometimes) just because I don't want you to have to keep replying back to me!! :) I love you!

Aubrey S. said...

BTW, I changed my comment box placement. I've had word verification off for a while, but I'm going to listen to you about the pop up window being more convenient.

Mom Mayhem says: said...

I know what you mean on the auto -playlist and the general not related to the post comments and or people who just don't comment. Well, I'm not so much into the techie side of blogging -I will have to check my settings -Can you setup /change to a different email? I think that was part of my problem on that before. Anyways nice to visit you and very cute header also BTW!

Steph said...

I totally agree. I prefer the pop out box for commenting too.

Mandy said...

Thanks for the info on the "no-reply comment." I didn't even know it was there. I was also helped with the "word verification." I like to read these kinds of posts because it helps teach me what NOT to do. I'm a newbie after all! Have a great Monday :)

Nic said...

Ive been annoyed that I couldnt reply to peoples comments on my blog for awhile. I felt like youre there showing me love and I want to acknowledge that with a reply but I couldnt!
So Thank You for stopping by and letting me know there was a way to change this. I switched my settings right away. Let the comment love begin!

Brandy@YDK said...

i totally and whole-heartedly agree. I've been awful about short generic comments this week only because I've been commenting from my phome and what a PAIN that is!! and oh don't get me started on iphones and word verification. for real, yo. i'm not a fan of getting awards - like it makes me happy but i don't really like reposting and crap.

VandyJ said...

I think I have fixed these--hope so any way. One of my bloggy pet peeves are the new followers who follow but then don't seem to have a blog you can find. And they don't leave a comment telling you they are new followers so you can find their blog. I like to follow back if someone follows me, but sometimes I just can find the person's blog--kind of frustrating.

Susie said...

I hate it when people don't comment too!!

Amy said...

AMEN to the auto play music!!! MAKES ME BANANA SANDWICHES!

Hopefully I have fixed the "no reply issue". I'm not usually technologically challenged but for some reason this one is eluding me! I followed your instructions to a T, so here's hoping for good results!

Andrea (ace1028) said...

Hilarious! I just saw the button on your sidebar and was grabbing it before I read this post. I LOVE it. It's so perfectly true!!!

Andrea (ace1028) said...

p.s. My "other" peeve ... captcha. It's starting to get to me, and I was a late convert. I still comment, but man, sometimes ... argh!

Jess said...

The non-responders drive me nuts too. I mean, I don't expect a response to every comment I leave every time, but once in awhile some acknowledgement is nice.

And no reply blogger? Yeah. I'd like to punch it in the face.

Emmy said...

Oh very very good list! totally agree. I too did a few follow me posts in the past but like you say while it makes your numbers look good they are people that will probably never come back to your blog again. I figure if I took the time to read the post I can take the time to comment.. unless I am reading while going to the bathroom or something. ;)

jennykate77 said...

THANK YOU for saying this...all of it. Impulsive and I were just griping about the people who leave the "cool post", "cute", "awesome", etc. comments. Please, for the love of blogging, leave something meaningful!!!

I swear I will add in your no-comment blogger revolution thing into a blog post this week...or give it a post of it's own. I just copied your easy instructions. Is that ok?

Thanks so much for linking up to The RHOK today!!

P.S. I took Flat Mama out for a little play in the snow this weekend! I'll post some pics soon.

MiMi said...

You know I'm with you on all of these peeves!
I think some bloggers think they are so hot, they never reply to comments or come visit you. Which is RUDE.

Beth said...

Phew! I don't do any of the things that are on your list....which makes me feel pretty darn relieved (you know me, I'm always paranoid that I'm doing something annoying on my blog). :)

You know I'm down to only one or two commenters per week that haven't enabled their emails now. Viva la revolution! :D

Baloney said...

Great list! I wonder if the people without email enabled even realize you are talking to them??
I'm always amazed by people ignoring my comments. I understand that it happens sometimes, but come on people!!! It's just part of blog etiquette.

NJDecorator said...

I enjoy your variety of bog post and promise never to comment unless I have something interesting to say.

I wish that had been more interesting!

Impulsive Addict said...

You tell 'em all about it, MAMA! Do you think that people who are "no-reply commenters" even know it's THEM we're talking about? I've preached it a couple of times over on my blog and they STILL are a non-replier. Or non-replyer. Whatever. I think I just made that word up anyways.

I try to be a thoughtful commenter and I like the same in return. I'm really hoping people start listening and learn some blogging etiquette. I would love them even more.

Oh, and playlists annoy the crap-stuffing out of me. (I don't know what that means) How can I read and listen to music? I can't. I'm not that talented and I have a severe case of OCD on most days.

Thanks for linking up!
MUAH!

You are amazing. I love your thoughts on the topic and I agree.
I'm not quite as up on everything in the bloggy world as you are and sometimes I feel over whelmed with it all. Every time I come to your blog and read I'm so glad I did. You make me happy. I'm a private blog. I blog to journal my family and print out a book of it every year. I enjoy it. I take off any readers if they do't commet at least once in a year. I figure they must not really be that interested in my life and family and I don't need stalkers or gossipy neighbors spying. I had a neighbor come up to me about 9 months after I took her off my invite list. She said she wanted to be invited and wondered why she was off the list. I casully said that I took of anyone that didn't comment much figuring they werent interested. I then changed the subject. We are not close and she never comments. What do you think? Am I rude not to invite her I have a feeling she will ask again and I see her weekly. I don't know what to say??

Lourie said...

I hate the audio play! I don't want to listen to it. And I hate most when the dang thing is all the way at the bottom of the page!!

Word verification should called something else...like...guess the word/letters.

I did the follow thing once or twice...meh...not for me.

And I heart the pop up comment box!

Megan said...

I'm always shocked when I come across a blog that still has automatic music playing - seriously, the word isn't out that everybody hates that?

Kim said...

I love your peeves!! You do make me laugh. I have to say shame on me as I dont always respond to people when they leave a comment and I am probably being rude. So from here on out I will send an email at least thanking them for visiting!! Thanks for the tip!!

6 Happy Hearts said...

I joined your revolution, now if we could get all the others in blogworld to unite?! I absolutely hate it when I miss replying to a commenter. I cherish the comment love so I want to give it back as much as I can : )
Thanks for linking up today!

Dawn said...

Oh, girl! Thank you for mentioning the playlist. I can't believe I forgot that one and barking dogs. They both suck.

Love you list of peeves and completely agree.

Those blog hop carnivals are crazy boring. BORING. I feel the same way.

Thank you for linking your precious self right on up with us housewives.

Myya said...

Preach it sista! I'm feelin you on all of these!

Ok you.are.hilarious! What? What is THAT? WHAT? WHY? NO WAY! How do I fix that? You. Are. Welcome.

LOVE it!!! :)

Lulu said...

Agree 1000%! I realize that each person likes different things ... but that pretty much means I'm not going to like your music choice. I always mute my computer when I'm blogging anymore.

Great top 5 list!!!
Lulu :)

Jessica G. said...

Playlists are the worst! I use Google Reader so I'm opening multiple blogs at once. When one of them starts playing music, I have to shuffle through them to find it - and it's always buried at the bottom somehwere. AND I'm a dork so I don't share the same taste in music.

Sandra said...

Ok, I think you hate me on several levels, but tough, I still like you. I don't comment to everyone, I can't keep up. And I can't get my blog to show the comments in my email so I can at least respond that way.
Anyway, not making excuses...actually, yes, yes I am.
As for the word verification, I have taken it off again, but I had to put it on, i kept getting comments from foreign men asking if I could send them my rolling pin which apparently I had been using for highly inappropriate things. So word verification seems to keep the rolling pin weirdos at bay.
But yes, hate the blog hops, hate the awards.
I think I made it exceedingly too long. Forgive me?

{leah} said...

You know... I was thinking. I hate generic comments too... I think I'm pretty clever sometimes and I want people to comment on my cleverness.

Boo to generic!!

Jodi said...

I agree with all your pet peeves! I just don't get the automatic playlist. Annoying! And I can't figure out the blog hop parties either!
Thanks for the laugh this morning!

Marie C. said...

I completely understand these peeves! #1 on my list is the automatic music, too. Annoying!

Thanks for stopping by my blog earlier in the week -- it brought me over to yours and I am now a follower! :-)

Molly said...

I just want to go on record saying that I was going to respond to your visit even BEFORE I read this post--don't think you guilted me into it--lol. I also don't like the "found your site I'm following you now, come follow me." I'm kind of a follower snob, I really only like to follow blogs that interest me. In case your adolescent need to please kicks in, you fit the bill! Thanks again for stopping by

Miss Angie said...

Viva la bloggy revolution! Man, I agree with almost all of your pet peeves... LOL

Sami said...

I wholeheartedly agree! When someone leaves a comment that simply says "nice post" or "awesome" (especially if they aren't loyal readers) I automatically assume it is some sort of SPAM comment. Someone who simply hopes that I will follow them back to their blog and leave a comment.
AS IF!

Erika . . . with a K said...

Oh and I must agree about the awards... it's chain letters for blogs, thanks but no thanks.... and blog hops? Since when is blogging about getting the most followers? If I have 2 followers that read my posts and get what I'm saying, then that is better than 300 followers that never visit my blog! I totally get your bloggy peeves!

Ashley Rose said...

HA! I totally agree with you on every point. I am sorry for being annoying before... (eep!) I do have a playlist on my blog but not only is it NOT on auto start, it is on a whole separate "page" of the blog. Except for the posts that I feel the need to attach music to....then it's embedded in the post....but it's STILL not on auto start! I hate it when people do that! Look, blogger, I'm sure you think your music is awesome--and maybe it really is! But maybe I think it sucks and I don't want to listen to it. Or maybe--just MAYBE--I have other things to listen to....freaking jerk....shoving your music all over me...

Aaanyway....I totally stole your "enable your email" button. Thanks!!

andie jaye said...

check, check, and check. thanks for your tip you left on my happy list re: enabling my email. i didn't realize that. i also diabled the word verification and switched my comments to the pop up box. i'm still really new (9 followers) so i'll take all the help i can get. as of right now, you're my blogging guru. hope that's cool! blessings!

Natalia Lynn said...

I love this post and agree with everyone! You would think it was more obvious! I hate it when people never reply back. It makes me feel like they think they are better than me, like too good to respond. And I wouldn't want a blog with a ton of followers who don't care but are there just because I asked them to be! I am kinda stalker-ish right now because I am reading through your entire blog! :)
