WAY back in November my mom came over and we spent a few days making hair pretties.
I kept promising y'all a tutorial, but I totally forgot about it until I was gathering cute PINK things for my Pinktastic Swaptastic partner.
I knew I had made some little hair clippies that I wanted to send to Impulsive Addict's little girl.
So now that it is fresh in my mind I decided to finally post a few pictures and a few short tutorials.
My mom has this cool cutter thingy (I know so specific) that cuts out perfect circles.
So we started by getting some cool silky and sheer fabrics that went together and cut them into circles.
You can totally do this by hand, they do not need to be perfect.
I used 3 different sizes for this one and 2 different fabrics.
My middle size circle was made from silky fabric and in order to get rid of any frayed edges and to curl it a little i held it over a candle.
as you can see it burns the edges a little man makes them curl up
depending on how sheer your fabric is will help you decide how close to the flame you want to get. The sheer fabric gets hot quick so keeping it well above the flame and letting it slowly heat up is best and give you the most control.
Once I had my circles burned and curled it was time to assemble them into a flower.

Once I had my circles burned and curled it was time to assemble them into a flower.I placed them on top of each other and once I had then where I wanted them I stitched a little X through them all and knotted the thread on the back.

Then i cut a little piece of felt clipped my little barrette to it and hot clued it to the flower.

Then I glued a little gem to cover up the thread X.

This project was unbelievably easy. We made a ton of these and sold them before Christmas.
Next up is my attempt to make a cute headband using fabric yo yos.
I found a GREAT fabric yo yo tutorial here...I am too lazy to make my own tutorial.
And her pictures are amazing.
Mine. Are. Not.
So make your yo yos from various fabrics that all kind of go together.
This one is made up of pinks, brown and white.
Start by assembling your yo yos on a piece of felt.
Add more until you get a design that you like
Then hot glue them all to the felt.
Turn the felt over and cut off all of the extra.
Cut another strip if felt and glue the two together on a head band. It's a good idea to put the head band on before gluing and see where the yo yos are best placed.
I went back and added some buttons and smaller yo yos but decided it is better and easier to sew on buttons before assembling on the felt.
And here ya go, the finished product! Every time I wear any of my yo yo headbands I get tons of compliments.

Awesome - so pretty!!love the colours in the yo-yo's
Very cute! I admire your craftiness, I don't even have the patience, much less the talent, to do such cute things! Way to go!
You Craft-y little diva you. I loved the tutorial. Very nicely done!
The Yo Yo head band is the bomb. I am thinking I may need to make a few for photo shoots. :D
Are you going to do a give away for your craft-y products? or are you going to keep them for yourself and J? :D
Thanks for the tutorial. The headband is too, too cute. I bet you get lots of compliments! I don't know how to make the yo-yo's but I see them everywhere.
I love my yoyo headbands!
I love the compliments, too.
Do you think we have the same parents? haha!
Great tutorial, I've been thinking about making a ton of the little hair clippies for the girls to give as birthday presents.
Thanks for sharing these with us. I've been looking into making some headbands to match my tastes, but I just can't seem to find the time.
My little sister (31) is a hair accessory fanatic. She would LOVE LOVE LOVE these...
I get a little crafty every now and then too... I like it when i do... and then afterwards, i'm glad it's only every once in awhile. :)
I love these!!! I can be crafty challenged so I am loving that you included step by step instructions with pictures too..I can't wait to make these...thank you
I really like the rose clip - so simple but so pretty! Thanks for sharing!
So creative...I love it!
Really cute! I do the same thing with the candle - even for felt! Makes such a great difference!
Hope you'll have a wonderful day!
Hugs xxx
Dude I am so not crafty, even to make adorable (and you claim easy) hair accessories. I have accepted that I'm a DIY fail. But doesn't mean I don't love to try!
I made my husband a felted covered frame for VDay (from the babe) and it looks like the babe made it. haha.
Have a great day!
Maegan :)
You so purdy! And crafty. You know how much I hate crafty people. Tone it down a little. I would HATE to hate you.
Muah!
good job. totally adorable. I love the little circle buttons. And you should giveaway one of your headbands. to me specifically. lol
Those are great! What a perfect birthday party favor for my girls. Thanks for the tutorial.
That is great--I would so love to be able to wear a headband--but they give me awful headaches. Yours is so cute though!
CUUUUUUUUUTE!!!! I wanna learn to make a yoyo! Gonna go check it out.
I love those! I might be able to find time to do some of the flower clips, but I have a feeling that I'll have to wait for things to calm down before I attempt any of those adorable headbands.
Dangit!
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE! They'd be a huge hit with teenage girls!
Oh my gosh, WOWWWWWWWWWW!!! I love, love, love that headband!!! You did an amazing job, I love it!
Cute!! I used to craft.. I want to again but just the thought of getting everything out only to have my kids try and help makes me shudder
OH, great ideas! Thanks for posting those! :D
I cannot wait to try making some of these....fabulous!
so cute, and it looks like something my non-sewing self could do. I love big headbands... I feel like it takes away from my fat face. ha!
thanks for the tutorial!
I need to sit down and try this. I've been meaning to give it a whirl FOR-EVAH... you may have just gotten me off of my fat butt!
Those are totally cute!
I love that you called yourself an attention whore LOL.
I think the little clippies just might be easy enough for a non crafty gal like me to actually attempt. LOOOVE the yoyo, but I dunno about actually trying it for myself. I'm a lil skeered.
Super cute! I've been wanting to make hair pieces. I love both clips and bands.
Gorgeous!!
We just made cute hair clips/bands with the YW. They loved doing so. Yours turned out great.
Those are so amazing. I truly envy people who can craft like that.
Let me first tell you I'm totally jealous of your fingernails. I cannot grow nails!
Ok...now I have to go to my local craft store and start making these for my adorable nieces and God-daughter!
Watch out Martha!
oh my goodness ... I wish I were crafty! and that headband ... to die for!
I am thinking that you should make these and do a giveaway yourself...and open and ETSY shop WOMAN! Oh...but before all that...send me one before you get famous :)
Those. Are. Adorable. 'nuff said. :)
I am so glad that yo-yos are coming back. They are so easy and fun to make.
very cute!!!
there are advantages to having girls... :)
I love your rose barrettes! I've been looking for something new for my daughter and these are it! Plus, I have TONS of ribbon just sitting around, waiting for me to be inspired and do something with them. ;-)
That's so cute! And it's a hidden talent. You could vlog about it! I bet you already have something up your sleeve for that, though.
very fun, I've been wanting to try some yo yo's they look great on your headband! Thanks for linking up to Topsy Turvy Tuesday's!
