Talkin' about it Tuesday

1. What type of home do you currently reside in? (house, apartment, etc.)
A 3 bedroom, 2 bath, 1500 sf house. We live in the house Big Daddy grew up in. His folks still own it and have rented it for about 15 yrs. So it is not in great shape but since we moved in 5 yrs ago there have been MANY renovations and upgrades, with more on the horizon.

2. If you could completely redecorate one room in your home, what room would you pick, why, and what would you do to it?
My family room. I would love new furniture and color on the walls.

3. What is your favorite place to gain inspiration for your home decor style?
My sister Meg has great style and she can build, recover, and refurbish A-N-Y-T-H-I-N-G. She recently BUILT her own farm table using aged black walnut wood, gorgeous! Basically she can look at something crusty and old and see the beauty in it and create something amazing. That inspires me.

4. What is your favorite piece of decor in your home?
It's a toss up between this old window I have hanging in my kitchen and these 2 rusty metal chairs that I have in my family room.

5. What do you want visitors to feel when they visit your home? Do you think your home gives off that feeling?
I want them to feel comfortable and welcome. For the most part I really think that feeling comes across. I try really hard to be a good host.

6. Describe your home in one word and explain why you chose that word.
Progress. It has come a LONG way from when we first moved in and is really close to being fantastic, probably in time for us to move out. Once the kitchen remodel is done this place will be perfect! But it is in the wrong town.

7. What are some predominant colors or patterns in your home?
Each room is pretty different. But i guess we have a lot of neutrals with punches of color here and there.

8. What is your favorite room in your home and why?
The PINK room, it just makes me happy and fills me with hope.

9. Do you take a hands-on or DIY approach to projects around your home or do you enlist or hire help?
Enlist help. If it is painting furniture and just redecorating I can do that, but big projects like J's bathroom and the master bathroom remodels are done by the professionals.

10. Where is your favorite place to shop for home furnishings?
Craig's list...so many deals on some great things! We got our dinner table for $150 and it is awesome. AND we got the 2 DARLING twin beds for the PINK room with practically new mattresses and box springs for $200, yeah...for BOTH of them.
So we have been asked to share our Top 2 Favorite Items from 2010...

{ONE}I found the coolest strawberry slicer "kit" at Bed, Bath and Beyond. It had a little strawberry shaped colander and I had it in my basket ready to buy it for $12.99.

UNTIL I got to a clearance rack and found TWO colander free slicers for $.98 who needs the strawberry shaped colander (that was obviously cheap since at least two broke in delivery).

I use to use an egg slicer to cut my strawberries but after a while the little wires get stretched and weak. This adorable strawberry shaped slicer has actual blades...I love it!

OK...now I am ready to get back to SUMMER!!!

{TWO}
Speaking of Summer my next favorite item was also purchased this last Summer.

I am in love. Like seriously. With a vacuum. True love.

With this vacuum, an Eureka Enviro Vac.

This baby is fantastic. It gets EVERYTHING from every nook and cranny. The attachments are awesome and the WASHABLE filter and removable bag-less canister is so cool and so easy to clean.

With 2 kitties (who now live outside) and a new puppy I vacuum just about everyday the ease and pure awesomeness of this vac makes me very happy. OH and it uses 33% less energy.

I always enjoy getting to know my bloggy friends a little better! Do you know that I'm a vacuuming nut? I'm going to have to check that one out!

There is something therapeutic about seeing a freshly vacuumed carpet.

Hollah! Thanks for the shoutout! Twice in one day I found ME on other blogs. And today started out pretty craptastically, so what better to cheer me up than being the star (ok, maybe not the STAR, but whatev)on a couple of my favorite blogs? Thanks for the compliment. You have good style, too! I remember begging you to give me that window like 6 years ago. Aren't you glad you said no? It's way cute.

You ARE definitely a great host. I loved my week at your house. You make people comfortable, offer excellent snackity snacks, the conversation is always good and everything is laced with the perfect amount of reality tv and inapropriate humor. "It's pohfect!"

OH and our vacuume is dying. Aaron has mentioned twice in the last week that we need to replace ours stat (it is 10 yrs old, and was kind of cheap to begin with.) I didn't even know where to start my vacuum hunt. Now I do! Thanks!
