I Blame Facebook

Is it just me or is there a whole new group of bloggers who are "replying" to people's comments in their own comment thread?

I know I keep talking about this but it is something people are really responding to.

I was thinking about it

and well...

I hate to say this

but

I blame Facebook!

I know, I love Facebook too.

But hear me out.

Everyone replies to comments left on their Facebook IN the comment thread.

It makes sense.

And you get a cool little notice when someone responds to something you left in a thread.

Sometimes people even "like" what you have to say.

I admit that little "thumbs up" thing is something I really enjoy about Facebook.

But blogging is NOT Facebook.

Really, it isn't.

It's blogging.

With blogging I don't get a little notice telling me someone "liked" my comment or that someone has even commented on my comment.

I never go back to a comment I leave on someone's blog to see if the blogger left me a comment back.

Ever.

Why would I?

Once I comment on a post I usually wait until they post again to visit them and comment on the NEW post.

So last week I decided to start a bloggy revolution, I added it to my most recent Bloggy Business post.

If you missed that Bloggy Business post you might want to check it out. There was also a fun announcement.

I decided to go ahead and dedicate a whole post to this new bloggy revolution.

The Enable Email movement.

The Down with "No Reply Blogger" epidemic. (what?)

You might be a "no reply" blogger and not even know it.

Allow me to help you.

Go to your "dashboard". Click "edit profile". Click the little box next to "show my email address". Click "SAVE".

It should show the same address that your comments are delivered to. If you want email sent to a different address you will need to change your address. I can walk you through that via email.

Now, what do you say?

Do you want to become part of the bloggy revolution? Just add this button to your sidebar.

I am not saying that if you add the button to your blog that you NEED to reply to comments left on your blog via email. I am just saying, why not give people the option of responding to your comments?

If you add the button to a post link it up.

I will collect links until Feb. then I will draw for a winner. I am giving away a mini package of PINK goodness and I will mail the prize out on the same day I ship my partner's package for the Pinktasic Swaptastic.

If you already posted and let me know, link your post up...hopefully everyone who has already posted will come back and link up, I don't want to miss anyone.

This can be added on to ANY post or be a post in and of itself...just link it up in order to qualify for the prize drawing.

Photobucket
If you want the code for the button with the "grab code" box, for your sidebar (or post), let me know and I will email it to you!!

Go forth and revolutionize!!

PhotobucketPS. Facebook is still my boyfriend, no worries.
PPS. I also think it makes sense for Private Bloggers who have a smaller following to reply within their comment thread (Holla! Meg and Angela)

I am going to do a post on this SOON! I have a couple of commenters that are 'no reply' people and that has to stop! Thanks for starting a new revolution!! :)

back before blogging went crazy and everyone got a blog in 08 that they stopped posting on after 6 months (when they got a facebook account), everyone commented back in their own comments. I think it was google reader that people started replying back with emails.

But I do blame facebook for making blogging not as fun as it used to be. You can only get so much from a two sentence status update. Blogging is so much more personal.

Totally feel you! I have one commenter and (friend..I think) that goes from "no reply" back to where I can reply via email and it bugs me. I love being able to reply back to bloggers who comment on my blog. It's definitely how I have made some friendships!

I am with you! I love being able to reply to peoples comments... and I don't usually check back..at least not on purpose

Great informtion:-)

I hate replying within the comments. Not to offend anyone, but I like to read a lot of blogs and I do well to visit all of them once per post; there's no way I have time to go back a second time to see if they replied within the comments!

I am thinking this will be a great Question for my Monday post!!

Ohhh man do I ever agree!!! Nothing more annoying then not being able to have a "conversation" with someone!

I don't know why people respond in their own comments because I know I don't go back and read them. If I have a question, my email is enabled, so they can quickly send me a message.

I'm totally with you on this. I only reply within my comments if I don't have an email to reply to. Lately, I've gotten new readers that I really want to send just a hello email to, and I can't. They don't have an email or a blog link in their profile. Boo!

Red Stethoscope said...

Oh, Mamarazzi! You are saving the blogosphere one email disabler at a time :)

I do the comment after comment on my own page thing, but I realize that unlike FB, the person isn't getting a message that I have responded, so usually, I will end up commenting on their page ANYWAY and then they know to come back to my page (really annoying I realize). I do this, though, because other readers viewing the comments (like my sister) tell me they want to know the answers to the question the person has asked, so then I feel compelled to post answers where everyone else can see.

So complicated, this bloggy communication.

I have a profound hatred of Facebook and have no intention of joining the ranks. Ever.

Too much time and energy wasted.

MiMi said...

A lot of times there are these blogs that you have to actually subscribe to get all comments after your comment to come to your email. So if the blogger replies to your comment you see it, but you also see a whole bunch of other comments that you DON'T wanna see.
Drives me nuts. NUTS. And I have seen basically ALL OF US begging these people to take their comments off of no-reply and I don't think they ever even check. It's irritating.

Snuggle Wasteland said...

I never go back to see if someone has replied to my comment. I barely have time to leave comments let alone go back again.

Some blogs have an application that emails you the bloggers reply. I don't mind that but I don't have the brainpower to figure out how to do it on my own blog.

I'm so guilty of this and never really thought it through. You've made me a changed woman, Mamarazzi. Just posted a link to my own post!

The Kooky Queen--Rachel said...

YES! Seriously, it's weird to me because I never EVER go back and look at a post a second time to see if the blogger left me a comment. So to me it's a total waste!

Oh and I have to say, I've stop being such a lazy blogger because I'm SOOOOOOOOO sad to have missed your pink swap! Darn-diggity! That would've been fun!! Hope it goes well!

Andrea said...

I am SOOOOO gonna do this!! Hopefully I'll get a chance later tonight or tomorrow...I'll be back to link up!

Andrea said...

Okay...DONE!!

Impulsive Addict said...

Ok...I'm linking up at the bottom of my post for today. I COMPLETELY agree!

Who doesn't love comments? I think it should be mandatory for all stalkers to leave a comment. See what you can do about that, mkay? You've got power. I just know it.

Amy said...

Ok, I'm all linked up now! Woohoo!

Thank you it is so nice to know to respond to people who are kind enough to leave a comment on your blog. I love love love your site. You're funny, helpful and just have great ideas. Just thought you should know. :)

Just the thought of being part of a revolution excites me. Love the idea! Finally grabbed the button. :) Still waiting for a skin care class where you shock the world with your baby oil know how! I swear if I tried that it would be a hot mess!

Tiffany said...

I saw this link on Adrienne's Stories from the Shoebox and had to join in. It bothers me when I get a new reader who comments and I can't reply back to them. I posted my link and put your button on my blog! I'm hoping more join in.

Xazmin said...

I did it! And one day, ONE OF THESE DAYS...I'm gonna swap!!

Kari said...

OMG I love this! The "no reply blogger" is one of my biggest pet-peeves EVER! And, I never reply to my commenters in the comment thread. I love being able to reply to them via email. Thanks!

I came via Just Lu and Housewife Eclectic. Great idea to have a movement. I've found that most blog-education has to be self taught this way. Thanks.

Will be making up a post for tomorrow! Great idea!

I was SO pleased to post this button on my sidebar. Much needed! Thanks.

I never go back to a comment I've made to see if there are any replies, because I figure there won't be.... because I assumed that if anyone wanted to leave a comment for me they'd do what I do - go to the persons blog that LEFT the comment on MY blog and return the favour and comment on THEIR blog.

Otherwise, it's just the original blog post that's getting a bazillion comments and replies to comments and replies to replies to comments, and, and , and.

I do get the little box after I make a comment that lets me get email of follow up comments, but that also means I get everyone else's unrelated comments too and my inbox is bursting at the seams as it is.

Might be missing something here, but it just seems impolite to expect everyone to come do the chatting on that one persons blog only. No new blogs would ever be found if the blogger did all their interation on their own posts and expected everyone to check back to keep things going.

Oh, and I dont' facebook or twitter either...

The Path Traveled said...

I really like this idea. I never go back to see if anyone replied because I read so many and get lost in the time. Thanks for stopping by yesterday and commenting on my granddaughter. Still hope you will come back and follow my blogs. I have attached the button, let the comments begin!

Love it. Found you from Christy my fellow RHOK : )

Well, I'm thinking that my no-replyness might be because I'm with Wordpress, not Blogger. So of course, your above instructions do not apply. I did try, though, and I'll keep looking. :)

Thanks for visiting me! (And letting me know that I am inadvertantly annoying my fellow bloggers!)

I linked!

I'm not on Facebook. I did figure out how to receive email from posters. I love seeing what people post on my blog. Since I just started it's easy to respond back.

Agh! This drives me nuts. I know your linky is closed, but I just added this button to my blog. I first saw it on My Crazy Busy Life's blog and love it!! The button on my site will link to your post. Thank you for writing this and creating a button. Let's keep the dialogue going.....

I jumped on this bandwagon late, but I totally agree :) I posted your nifty button on my blog! Any progress is better than no progress right?

I know this is going to show how much of a "newb" I am - but I don't know how to respond to people's email address after they comment on my blog. My email is enabled, so people can email me - but I don't know how to do it as the blogger.
