Eight

My good bloggy friend Sami from Symmetry in Motion tagged me for this fun meme....

1. Do you collect anything? What is it? If not do you WISH you did?
I do, I collect unique perfume bottles and I just began collecting Owls and cute headbands. Big Daddy may say I collect shoes too, but not really anymore. I think I am down to about 30 pairs of flip flops, 10 pairs of boots and maybe 12 pairs of "other" shoes.

2. What room in the house would you most like to remodel. Would your answer change if someone else was paying for it?
My kitchen....hands down. It is small and more of a walkway from one side of the house to the other. It is hardly functional and it is UGLY. BUT it has come a long way from the way it looked when we first moved in H-I-D-E-O-U-S so, baby steps.

3. What is your LEAST favorite chore? Do you hate it enough to get a maid to do it, or are you too anal for that?
Bathrooms...scrubbing tubs and toilets is horrible. I would totally pay someone else to clean them if I could. Totally!!!

4. Have you ever had a broken bone? What, and how?
Nope. Well yes, kinda, but I don't wanna talk about it. It was 2 lifetimes ago.

5. Music. Do you have a go to album that you play to get you motivated, or do you just blare the radio, and pray that something peppy comes on?
I have spent HOURS creating my own playlist and it is AWESOME. A few of my followers and swap partners have been lucky enough to get my playlist on a CD I made 88 minutes of pure awesomeness.

6. How do you keep track of your schedule? Old fashioned calendar? Set alerts on your phone? Fly by the seat of your pants, and pray you don't forget a parent/teacher conference?
I use to use my phone but I got a new phone and the calendar is kinda lame. Anyone know a good calendar app I can download? I need something that will alert me with a tone...I became very dependent on my little Palm Centro...the calendar is the only thing about it I miss though.

7. Cooking, baking or neither?
Cooking, I love to cook...but only in a clean, well stocked and functional kitchen. I would love to be a baker but there is far too much math and science involved. I will stick with being a cook, and I think I make yummy food too!

8. Are you brand name specific, or are generics just as good? What is one product you would NEVER replace with a generic brand?
Good question...I don't like generic peanut butter, it has to be chunky Skippy...mmm. I won't use generic contact lens solution, cuz I like to be able to see. But for the most part I don't mind generic, if all of the ingredients are the same. I think I heard once that the store brands make deals with certain brands to use their brand in store packaging, so most generic stuff really is he same thing...but I think it was my sister Meg who told me that and her husband is a buyer for Walmart so....who knows. LOL Meg, what say you?!

Well this was fun...anyone who wants to play should. My last two posts we answering questions, is my bloggy laziness showing? Let me know if you do this so I can come see....

Get your Happy Lists ready for this weekend too!!

HOOOOOOOOO ARE YOU? #2

Well I decided to join in with Night Owl Crafting and "Hooo Are You?" again. Sorry I am kinda late posting the questions came late. No bother tho, I had a lot of email to address regarding Queen for the Day. I am glad y'all are as excited as I am about this.

Now onto the questions....

1. List 3 Words that remind you of Fall.
Family, Pumpkin, and Leaves

2. Do You wear Jewelry often?
I use to wear jewelry all the time, you would be hard pressed to find me not wearing a cute necklace. Now I hardly ever do. I even rarely wear my wedding ring, it's just too big and blingy for everyday...bwah, ha ha ha. No. Really. It is. I never take off my diamond earrings though, like ever. Not even to wear other earrings. I need to wear some of the cute stuff I have.

3. Do you like your toes painted or natural?
PINK, always some shade of PINK, cuz pink is my signature color.

4. Do you ever wear a hat?
Ha, this made me think of that Target commercial. Have you seen it? The girl is standing there trying on a hat asking herself, "Do I wear hats?" and then there is a fantasy sequence with her wearing a hat in a park with handsome husband and adorable kids...then she says, "yeah, I totally wear hats!" Anyway, yeah...I totally wear hats AND I look super cute doing it! (does this answer make me look vain?)

5. Do you have someone that you talk to everyday on the phone?
Typically I talk to either my mother in law, mom, or one of my sisters everyday. But none of them everyday, always. I use to talk to my mother in law everyday, hmmm wonder why that stopped, something I said? Probably.

NightOwlCrafting
PhotobucketPS...i really love my mother in law, that was not a jab at her in anyway whatsoever.

My Happy List

So HAPPY to share my Happy List with everyone this week.

I am excited to tell you that along with our monthly drawing EXCLUSIVELY from our list of followers for super fun prizes I am also adding another way to get treats from ME. I love giving away treats and prizes and I love My Happy List and the way doing both makes me feel.

Seriously this whole My Happy List thing is a GREAT way to END a week or BEGIN a week. Sitting down and actually listing things that make me happy is such an awesome exercise in gratitude. Even if it is silly stuff (like a few of the things on My Happy List this week) just taking a minute to think of things that make me smile really does something for my soul.

I want everyone to do this. Sooo I am combining My Happy List linky party with something else I love; giving away treats. Everyone who links on My Happy List (make sure you add the button) will be entered in a monthly drawing for super fun prizes.

Awesome right? Make those Happy Lists and link up...you will love the way you feel!

OK now onto more Happy stuff...

I have connected with a darling Etsy shop owner and together we came up with a FUN Halloween giveaway....stay tuned, you are going to love this!! Details will be posted October 1.

I recently made a plea on Facebook for friends to reccomend a good, long lasting eyeliner. My friend Lori suggested Avon's Glimmer Sticks. I thought, why not the price is right (they were on sale for $3.99 ea.) and I can order them online and have them delivered to my doorstep.

I gotta tell you they are awesome. YES AVON...they last until you wash them off, they are soft so you tug and tear your eyelid off and the color is gorgeous. I got a brown and a black, love them both!
My Guilty Pleasures Swap partner Heidi, sent me an awesome and thoughtful package this week. In it, among other fabulous goodies, was this Aveeno Moisturizing Shower and Bath Oil...it smells amazing and it leaves my skin soft and silky. LOVE!!
I know I brag about my awesome husband Big Daddy all the time, and um...this week is no different.

I have been in a bit of a funk lately, just a lot weighing on my mind work wise and I have been weighing some options and seriously thinking of projects I am involved in and if they are worthy of my time and energy. I tend to over think things. for ME over thinking leads to anxiety and anxiety leads to stress and stress manifests itself physically.

Big Daddy knows when I am in a funk, he doesn't try and fix it...he just listens, lets me rant, agrees with me and ALWAYS takes my side.

Yesterday was rough, i was just feeling over emotional, crying over everything. I was still in my PJ's when Big Daddy got home. I had done NOTHING all day long. He came home, sat with me on the couch and watch some TV with me and made me feel better, just by being there.

I got up and took a looooong hot shower. When I came out I found Big Daddy in the kitchen he had done the dishes and was preparing dinner. I love him.

Seriously, the man is a keeper.

So what's on YOUR Happy List?!

On Finding Your Flow

Our awesome daughter Jordan loves to babysit. She has always had an affinity for infants and is really quite wonderful and nurturing caring for them.

Since J is kind of young for her age, she does all of her babysitting here in our home where she has "back up" if there is an emergency. She has never needed our help and we hardly see her at all during these babysitting sessions, but she is not quite ready to take the show on the road, so to speak.

Lately, particularly this past Summer J has really seemed to find her *flow with children of all ages. She had several opportunities to be the "babysitter" when we had my nephews.

On one of the many times that Big Daddy took the boys to the skate park
the little boys had no interest in skating. So Jordan tended them while the big boys skateboarded with Big Daddy.

J loved this little bit of responsibility, even though Big Daddy was within view and earshot.

park1

She completely lost herself in caring for Brock and Steven, who just so happened to wear matching shirts this day...(Brock is my brother Mark's youngest and Steven is my sister Amy's youngest)
park2collage

They spent hours swinging, laughing and enjoying the solo attention of Jordan. J loved being the one to provide them with all the attention too!
park3collage

J was excited to get home and share the pictures of her babysitting adventure.
park4collage

Yep, I think they KNOW how adorable they are...what do you think?!
park38

J was sooooo excited to "treat" all of the boys to shaved ice on this hot sunny day. She said, "It felt like I was a grown up, taking care of these little boys." and "I really think the boys appreciated how cool I am to buy them a treat!"
park5collage

I know WE appreciate how cool you are J. You are growing into a darling and responsible young woman. Daddy and I really love you and we are so pleased with the beautiful person you are both inside and out!
park21
I am interested in knowing, where do your kids seem to find their flow? AND Where do YOU find your flow?!

*Dr. Reivich suggests in the September Fishful Thinking Newsletter that flow is the mental state in which you are fully immersed in an activity. Your focus is laser like. You feel lost in the activity – fully absorbed in what you are doing. Time stands still. You are “in the zone”. When in flow, people describe deep concentration, a sense of being in control, and that the activity itself is intrinsically rewarding. Flow is deeply satisfying and brings a feeling of joy.

HOOOOOOOOO ARE YOU? #1

In an effort to get over my "blogstipation", I decided to link up with a weekly link party from Night Owl Crafting. This was suppose to post YESTERDAY but I totally forgot about it. I think I was slightly distracted, since my Guilty Pleasures Swap package arrived yesterday too!

A girl has priorities, ya know.

So back to Hoo Are You...Night Owl Crafting asks questions each week and hosts the linly party so we can make new bloggy friends. Cool right?

So on to the questions...
NightOwlCrafting

1. What is your Zodiac sign?
I am an Aries...I would say that most things you read about Aries I am somewhat guilty of, except of course all of the bad stuff...that's not me. Ahem, moving on...
2. Name 3 things that are always in your purse besides your wallet.
1. Lip balm/gloss is a must, even if i wear no other make up I take care of my lips.
2. hand sanitizer or sanitizing wipes, my germaphobic husband counts on me, I like to be there for him in times of OCD.
3. Tide stain pen...my kid is a mess maker...even at age 15, something always lands on her shirt and she wears expensive clothes.
3. Which magazines do you look at the most?
People is a Guilty Pleasure of mine, Better Homes and Gardens, Family Fun and an occasional Redbook.
4. Do you pluck or get your eyebrows waxed?
I use to get them waxed but it felt like too much tugging on my eyelid (there is a history of droopy lids in my family, I gotta be careful). So I prefer threading, as long as it is not in the middle of the mall. But I also obsessively pluck!
5. How often do you go grocery shopping?
Bulk shopping once a month, ideally. Fresh market items weekly or biweekly, ideally.

So Hoooo Are You?! Either link up or answer a question or 2 or 5 here.

So So Soooo Guilty!

Photobucket
Woo Hoo, my package for the Guilty Pleasures Swap arrived today! My partner Heidi from Where The Wild Things Are put together an awesome and thoughtful package. Heidi is a foster adopt mom and has 4 beautiful children who came to her by way of adoption. Her mom grew up with my dad and his sisters. Her Grandma was like a surrogate grandma to us and made our childhood Christmas stockings. We connected through Facebook through her mom Gaye and sister Kelly (who I hosted a giveaway for not that long ago, cute headband girl) When I found out that Heidi had a blog I sat there soaking up every word and basking in the beauty that is her family. One night, not that long ago, I read her entire blog. It further validated our current journey of using foster adopt to add to our family. I feel like Heidi is an angel, sent to be my friend just when I needed a friend who could truly relate to what we are going through. She is like a breath of fresh air.

Click HERE to see what I sent Heidi!

ANYWAY...on to the swap. OH and before you think I chose Heidi on purpose read below on how I decide who MY partner is gonna be...

She sent a note with all of it that I broke down below with the reason she chose to send the things she did.
gp2

1 & 2 "One of my favorite things to do is hunt for a bargain. I LOVE to garage sale, check second hand stores and check clearance racks. I found this (#2) darling dress on clearance for $6.24 YES BABY you read that right. I even left the tag on so you could see I really paid that. Even some of my favorite colors." I super love the dress Heidi, so cute and even cuter on. I am taking this baby all the way into winter with some cute suede boots.
3 "I am a sucker for Hallmark Movies. I think they are usually hokey with terrible acting but I get sucked in. I can't help it." Heidi, I am the SAME way. On Rainy weekends J and I will snuggle up and watch the Hallmark channel, one cheesy movie after another.
4 "I can rarely pass up a good smelling candle." ME either...and these smell super yum!!
5 "A little secret, that not many people know about me is that I almost always have Gerber Graduates Lil Chicken Sticks in my fridge. I do not share them and would probably stab someone with a fork if they tried to take them." OK girl, you have me a little skeeeerd on this one, but I might get brave and try one...for you.
6"I love taking bubble baths with nummy smelling bubble bath, love listening to music and just relaxing." So funny I sent you bath stuff too. I love a nice bath and can't wait to soak in this stuff, smells amazing!
7 "LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Burt's Bees Beeswax Lip Balm. I do not even share with my husband." Oh Heidi, I am the same way about my lip balm, I refuse to share.
8 "My favorite guilty pleasure is taking a nap. I so need them sometimes. I already talked to [Big Daddy]. He said he will honor this coupon and he says he will take Coco out for ice cream so you don't get licked to death in the process of your nap." I love me a good nap, and I sent YOU an sleep mask too, great minds....take naps! *wink* Love the coupon and that you checked with Big Daddy to make sure he would honor it. He thought this was so cool and also funny, he said, "Like you are gonna ask MY permission to do anything." Hmm does that make me sound bossy? OK.
9 "There are some candies I rarely share. Sour Patch Kids, Sugar Babies, and just about anything cinnamon." Mmmm, SPK...big love!
10 "I LOVE DIET COKE! I can't go a day without it. My mom was so sick when she was pregnant with me the Dr. suggested she drink coke syrup. I was addicted in the womb. I blame her ;)" Heidi I am the same with my beloved Diet Pepsi...we can still be friends tho, I wish I could blame my addiction on my mother. OH and Big Daddy already put the Diet Coke in the fridge knowing he didn't have to share.

Heidi, thank you so much for the fantastic package. I had a blast opening it and poking through the box to discover YOUR Guilty Pleasures and learn more about you.

Bloggy friends, some of you have asked how I choose who MY partner will be. I decided when I first started hosting swaps that I needed to come up with a strategy, or I would match myself with my favorite bloggy friend...cuz I am shallow like that, and I like to guarantee myself the good stuff. So once I had a number in mind of how many people I would allow to participate I let random.org decide the number of who I would match myself up with. Sooo...I have been lucky.

If you participated in the Guilty Pleasures Swap PLEASE link up your POST below.

My Happy List

Woo Hoo...I sent off my Guilty Pleasures Swap package to my super cute, fun partner today. It was soooo much fun shopping for this package, wrapping everything up and making little notes to explain each item. I cannot wait for her to get it. Squeeeeeee! I also cannot wait to see what everyone came up with, did y'all have as much fun as I did?!

I cannot believe it has been almost a year since my scary mostly dead experience. When I truly almost died and spent a week in ICU. The experience changed a lot of things in my life. I am WAY healthier now and really managing my Type 2 Diabetes (now that I know I have it, it's been a pretty easy fix).

But the stress of almost dying took its toll on my body. I really didn't feel like ME until mid June of this year. I still stutter now and then and my eye sight still goes wonky sometimes, and E-V-E-R-Y-T-I-M-E I go to write the letter V I have to pause and really concentrate. This is a problem and a bit annoying since my last name is Vasquez, but all in all I am really good.

Most def on My Happy List!

One of the things that got really bad was the hair loss from everything my body went through and getting use to new medications and such really had me losing it by the handfuls.

Big Daddy hired a lady to come in and deep clean my house for my Birthday last year and I broke her vacuum with all the hair it was sweeping up.

She knew I had been sick and she told me about Biotin, a vitamin supplement that helps with hair and nail growth.

LOVE IT!

I cannot believe how much more hair i have now compared to several months ago, and it's not falling out at all anymore.
My skin also went through a major mess, DRY DRY DRY...so I started a baby oil regimen. Before I towel off after a shower I cover myself in baby oil (I prefer the non scented) I have even started using it on my face and it's amazing how soft my skin is now. Once I have it all over me I dry off. Something about the wet skin and the oil makes it really absorb and you get a better result.
I have been eligible for a free upgrade for a loooong time. But I loved my little PINK Palm Centro and was nervous to change phones and hate the new one.

Then Big Daddy explained that Sprint had a 30 trial so if I hated the new phone I could switch back.

So I got a new cell phone...A Samsung Epic. So far, I love it. It's taking me a while to get the whole touch screen thing down. With my Centro I could tap the screen with my fingernails and the Epic is heat sensitive so it has to be finger tips toughing it. So lots of typos etc.

I love all of the applications I can download cuz it is an Android.

It is really too fancy for me but its fun.

Remember the Master Bathroom reconstruction? Well the guys are coming back to do the shower over. The didn't give us what we wanted and after a few phone calls back and forth we finally got them to agree they did a crap job and construction begins again on Monday. We are all still sharing J's bathroom and I am over it.

Tomorrow my Mother in law is coming to help us shop for lighting and mirrors for over the new double vanity. It will be nice to have it a little more functional by adding these 2 things.

I am sorry I haven't been around to say hello. I have been dealing with some migraines and a bit of the stomach flu, so I really haven't been feeling very "bloggish".

Insert Clever Title Here

I just don't have the energy to entertain a creative post today...but I have this overwhelming desire to reach out to my blog peeps and say hello.

But, honestly...I got nothing. I couldn't even come up with a title for this post.

I suppose I could go through the million pictures I have yet to post and create a little bit of cuteness for you to oooh and ahhh over.

nah.

blah. blah. blah.

I guess I am blogstipated. It has happened before. It doesn't last long.

I think I will stretch and do a little blog hopping. Maybe something will inspire me.

For now I have a few questions...if you will indulge me.

1. What do you do when you are blogstipated?
2. Do you feel a sense of responsibility to keep your blog current for your readers?
3. Do you ever delve into super serious topics on your blog, just to get it out?
4. Do you have a blog post in your draft folder that you WANT to post but are nervous to post?

OH wait...I do have something to say.

I knew once I started typing it would come to me.

The winner for the Family Photo Shoot Giveaway is announced HERE!

My Happy List

OOPS this post is late going up. Sorry.

My internal calendar is a little messed up from traveling this past weekend.

On My Happy List this week...

Getting to be together with all of my siblings and my parents this last weekend as we gathered for my Grandma's funeral. We all arrived on Thursday night so we had all day Friday to play...and we did. We took the kids to a place in St. George called Fiesta Fun. There was go karts, boats, arcade games and mini golf...something for everyone.

Now my family is all about maximizing the fun, even when the reason we were all together was my grandma's passing.

Honestly I think she would have enjoyed the day we all had together and I am certain she took a few minutes in heaven to peek in and see the fun.

We had a good time goofing off in the photobooth at the arcade...Meg and ME!

PB1
3 sisters Amy, Meg and ME....and my mom jumping in, HILARIOUS!
PB2
My little brother Scotty...this guy made us laugh All. Weekend. Long. He is just super funny....
PB3
My older brother Mark...getting ready to lead the pack in Go Kart racing...but I think Big Daddy won...more of this goodness in a future post that includes video.
StGeorge
My dad was standing next to me smiling and cheering as everyone raced around the track. I asked him how he was doing, since he and his sisters had gathered around their mom for a few days as she peacefully passed away.

Hi smile got bigger as he said, "Right now, this minute, I am great!"

I love my Family.

I also loved seeing family that I haven't seen in years.

Gathering to celebrate the full life that my Grandma lived and looking at the legacy she and my grandpa left behind, is most def the top of my happy list!

"Just Because" is a good enough reason for ME!!!

See this guy?

I love him.

A few weekends ago Big Daddy surprised me with a lovely and romantic picnic at Knights Ferry.
KFcollage2
He planned every little detail from my BIG delicious diet pepsi, from a fountain, over ice balls, in a cup with a lid and a straw...perfection.

But he also put together a very yummy lunch...see...
KFcollage1
The food was so yummy and refreshing...that cantelope was the best melon I have had all summer...so so so so good.

The weather was perfect 80*, breezy and warm.

We enjoyed our lunch under the big trees and then went for a hike. The beauty of this park is endless. It was a fantastic day.
KFcollage3
I am so thankful for my amazing husband who is always thinking of new ways to show me how much he loves me. I am a really lucky girl. He is awesome and knows it is the little things that truly mean the most.

I think I will keep him.

My Happy List

I am in St. George Utah. My grandma passed away on Wednesday. She was 91 and had been going peacefully for the last few days with her 4 kids by her side. She is in heaven now with my grandpa who has been waiting for her.

On my Happy List this week...

I KNOW that I will be with my Grandma and those who have gone to heaven before me again someday.

I get to see family who I haven't seen in a long time, funny how we can all drop things for a funeral but life gets in the way of a reunion. That needs to be fixed.

Spontaneous road trip. Just me and Big Daddy. I love a good road trip, junk food, music, adventures on the open road...hours and hours to talk about out future together, how we will spend the Lottery that we never play but dream of winning...good times. I love a road trip!

Jordan is taken care of and won't be going with us, we just don't feel like she needs to miss any school.

Big Daddy's cousin and her family will be staying at our house to take care of our puppy Coco and our 2 cats. This is a HUGE blessing. I mean what can we do with a new puppy? Can't kennel her because she hasn't had all of her shots. Can't send her to stay with anyone who has dogs, cuz she hasn't had all of her shots. AND the thought of making her travel for 10 hrs to sit in a hotel room didn't feel fair. Soooo knowing someone will be here with her, loving her and taking care of her is such a comfort.

Big Daddy has a job that allows him bereavement time. So he was able to take the time off to travel with me without having to use his vacation time. What a wonderful blessing.

Last weeks Happy List linky party had the most participants to date. This makes me very happy. I would love to see it double in size as the weeks go by. Link up your happy list EVERY weekend. It is a great way to end or start the week...on a HAPPY note.

So, what's on YOUR Happy List?
