Boy, OH Boy!

I really thought I would have gotten to posting about my super fun week with my sister Amy's 3 boys sooner than today.

But it looks like I am going to play catch up for a little while...so bare with me, and enjoy the cuteness!

We had a blast the first few days they were here just swimming in our pool, having picnics on the grass, picking out a new puppy...more on that later...before we took it to the road and went to my awesome in laws B&B in San Rafael, for a few days.

First stop a picnic lunch and a pretty sweet skate park!

Steven did a lot of this for the first 30 min. or so
Parker and Ty "dropped" right in
Steven getting braver
Ty taking it all in and skating at the same time

Parker is fearless, I could hardly watch

see Parker on the right? he just got that cell phone and was busy taking
video and pictures of his brothers and sending them to his parents.
After about 2 hours of skating Big Daddy and the boys hiked
to the top of the hill overlooking the skate park.
Cute boys...cool skate park below.
It was a great day. I was there for the first part...the lunch, then my awesome mother in law and I went shopping and left the boys and Big Daddy to fend for themselves...looks like they did just fine and so did we.

Win/Win.

More later, this Auntie takes lots of pics...lucky you.

Oh did I mention that when we took these 3 boys home we stopped in to say hello to my brother's kids and ended up bringing home HIS 3 boys for a week? THIS is why I have had little time for blogging.

It's been nice to have kids around since J is spending less and less time at home these days. I miss her...I am sure you all do too.

Red White and Blue Goodness Has Arrived!!!

Red White and Blue Swap

The mailman delivered my Red, White and Blue package from my awesome swap partner Janna from Happiness is a Journey. Look at how the box is bulging with goodness! AWESOME!
A quick peak inside before ripping into the packages...
Look at all that red, white and blue paper...it took a lot of control to stop and take a picture...
WOWZER...Janna truly outdid herself putting together a not only creative package but also a very thoughtful one. She even sent stuff for my Jordan and my kitties (Big Daddy grabbed one of the bags of pretzel M&Ms, "these must be for me!!).
Here is what Janna sent me:
1. 16oz double walled tumbler with a RED straw...so green!
2. RED, WHITE and BLUE crazy straws...these help add to my cool Aunt status, the kids used these with lunch today
3. ADORABLE owl necklace with a gorgeous BLUE stone...more on this later
4. Matching Life is Good teeshirts for J and I...so cute w/ the RW&B flip flops!
5. Party Mix for the Kitties RED for grillside crunch and BLUE for beachside crunch...creative way to include them.

9. Pretzel M&Ms...yummy, and creative since they are in a blue package!
10. A new Jane Green book...again, creative with the theme, BLUE cover! Can't wait to read it!
11. A RED pot clip for holding a spoon...I have wanted one of these for a while, love it!
12. LOOK...a RED cookie cutter shaped like Texas, the state where Janna lives!
13. Fruit Spread...I have seen this on Janna's blog and I am so excited to try it.
14. True BLUE's ultimate cleaning gloves...housework will never be the same!
15. RED strawberries on BLUE sleep shorts plus a WHITE tank...pajamas for J, she is thrilled!

I LOVE everything Janna sent but the thing that really makes me melt is this DARLING owl necklace. I do not know how Janna knew but I have been looking for owl necklaces, bracelets and other owl accessories for a while now. Y'all know I created a PINK owl themed room in the hopes of filling it with some kids. I have made a wish on this owl necklace and I am wearing it right now. Thank you Janna for such a lovely gift. So thoughtful!!
Thank you Janna!! I love ALL of the RED, WHITE and BLUE goodness that went into this very creative and thoughtful package, you rock!!

My Happy List

My Happy List THIS week pretty much consists of ONE major event...My Sister Amy's BOYS!!!

Three of my darling nephews, Parker 10, Tyler 7 and Steven 4, came to spend the week with us and it has been nonstop fun since they walked through the door. I have a million pictures to share of them swimming in our pool, playing in the game room trips to the skate park and general awesomeness.

I wish I could share them in THIS post, but we are all at my in laws B&B in San Rafael and I forgot my little USB drive thingy for the SD Card....or whatever those thingys are called. So y'all will have to wait for those pics.

We had the most fun day yesterday. First...

We had some lame errands that needed to be run first thing in the morning. Both Big Daddy and I had Dr. Appointments (we have been putting them off for weeks now for fun stuff instead) in Tracy, so we loaded the kids up made sure we had snacks and junk for them to do while they waited for us and off we went. The boys were awesome, I mean really how lame is it to have to sit in a waiting room for an hour?

BTW I had to get 2 shots, tetanus and a pneumonia shot....super lame. My arm where the tetanus shot is freaking killing me!!

THEN we had a long drive to Oakland where Big Daddy had to drop off an application to take an exam for a job change he is considering...more on that another time, maybe.

Then it was off to the land of relaxation and serenity that IS my awesome in law's B&B. I love this place.

We got here, grabbed some burgers at A&W and took our lunch to the SUHWEEEETEST skate park...really awesome. The kids hoovered their lunches and got their gear on and were off.

Big Daddy stayed with them and I went with my super awesome mother in law to do a little shopping. Our plan was to go to the market to get some grub for dinner but we stopped at a cool liquidation store and Kohl's before finally making our way to the market.

Meanwhile Big Daddy and the boys had abandoned their boards and went for a hike. Big Daddy is proud to tell anyone who will listen (and since you are here) that he can beat all of the boys in a footrace.

We all met up back at the house for BBQ dinner and while we were busy getting fresh berries and watermelon sliced and cooking, Big Daddy went for a 3 mile run and then came back and took the kids to the park. I swear he has MORE energy since he started running. *jealous*

We had a great evening that ended around the fire pit roasting marshmallows for S'mores and hearing the boys sing their Scout Camp songs and tell their silly stories.

When the boys said their bedtime prayers Tyler thanked Heavenly Father for "the best day of our lives".

Yep, THAT was the Tippy Top of My Happy List.

So what's on your Happy List? Link up YOUR Happy List posts if you wanna...I would love it!

My Awesome Sister Meg Part 2

You remember the post about my sister Meg and the groundhog right? Go read if you missed it, seriously funny video...like seriously funny. Trust me.

Back? OK here is the follow up to the story...or part 2...

Nelson called yesterday to tell me he had arrived at our house to prep for pouring our concrete patio.

I told him we'd be home in a minute, and not to "be alarmed, but there's a live groundhog trapped under the bucket near the fence."

Nelson: "Ok, Uhhh....did you want me to exterminate him for you?"

Hmmm....do I?

Yes. Yes. I do.
But not in my yard.

So, Nelson happily packed up Lil Phil
video

Hahahahaha, if only I had caught his face when I psyched him out. It was so funny. I insisted that Phil could still get out of there, but Nelson assured me that the secured lid was sufficient.

Or not.

The minute we walked away from the closed container, the lid came flying off the bucket and up into the air. I screamed, and Nelson sprinted back over to it, grabbed the lid, threw it back on as fast as he could, and said, "Ok, I think we might need to get a rope."

So Phil was tied up,

thrown into the back of a truck,
and taken home to Nelson's house....

where he was shot with a pellet gun, skinned, and is now soaking in a salt water bath.
Nelson plans to fire up his roasting pan tomorrow night and cook us up a Groundhog feast.
He promises to bring me a sample.
I requested only a bite size sample.

That's right.
we are freaking going to
eat
Groundhog Phil.
with lettuce, of course.

You mess with my garden and I will destroy you.
(I'm back to sounding tough again. yay.)

Good stuff right? It kills me that her blog is private and that this kind of awesomeness is not being shared with more than her exclusive list of readers. I am thankful she allowed me to share it with y'all!

She clearly has been living in Arkansas too long...I am afraid to ask her if she tried eating Phil yet...when she told me I threw up a little.

My Happy List

The tippy top of my Happy List this week was finding out that my sister Meg, who lives in Arkansas, will be coming home to California for 3 WEEKS in July.

You remember Meg right?

She is the one from THIS post where we all died laughing watching her try and catch a groundhog, oh the hilarity...

More on that next week. I know, be excited, you are going to love this.

Anyway, Meg has booked her flight....SQUEEEEE!!

Excited doesn't even start to describe how I am feeling right now. She is coming with her 3 beautiful children and I cannot wait to bask in their sweetness. I miss my sister so much and I literally live for visits like this. I haven't seen her since last Summer when I went to visit my folks in Colorado and Meg and her family met me there. Big Daddy and Jordan haven't seen Meg and the girls in two years and they have never met the baby who is now a year old. We are ALL tickled pink and are looking forward to our little section of time with them when they come to our house.

OK so beyond Happy about that!

I am also loving this warm weather we are having, our pool has been divine! We cannot get enough of it, and actually feel bad that more people are not enjoying it. So if you live close by, call...the pool is totally open!!

I am so HAPPY that there is already a great group of girlies signed up for my Red, White and Blue Swap! This is going to be such a quality swap. So may of the bloggers who have signed up are women who have put together the most thoughtful packages in past swaps. We also have a few newbies that I just know are going to add to this already amazing group. Have you signed up? There are a few spaces left, I am keeping this one small...so get over there, if you want to play.

Speaking of bloggy friends...Big Daddy was reading the blog the other day and he said, "Wow, you have over 600 followers!" I was surprised and said, "I do?" This makes me very happy, knowing that so many people want to join in the fun here. YAY! Now I would be REALLY happy if the 400 people who stop in each day would leave some comments...that would thrill me. I am a comment whore, what can I say? I mean as long as you are stopping in why not say hello, right?

J and I have been saving some of her special tee shirts and tops from special occasions. For a few years all of the BFF matching shirts and outfits she has outgrown go into a box titled, "Jordan's Memory Tees". I had a big plan of someday turning them into a quilt. Well that day finally arrived. My sweet friend Caroline helped me make this DARLING tee-shirt quilt for J as part of her graduation gift (and when I say help I mean I sent her the teeshirts and said, "I trust you, love ya, mean it". And she worked her magic and sent this back)...LOVE!! J loves it!! Isn't it adorable?!
Do my long time readers recognize some of these shirts?
awww...swimming with dolphins, a forever memory
one of her gloves from the Miley Cyrus concert!
I think I will go through my photos and put together a whole post on this quilt...I think that would be really fun for J.

So that's my Happy List this week! What's on your happy list? How about making a post with your happy list and linking up! Grab my cute button below and let's have a linky party!!

5 Bloggy Shout Outs!

Scroll down to learn more about Mamarazzi's Red, White and Blue Swap!!

I have been feeling the love a little after being featured on 2 blogs for my cute ABC Wall Art. I love the feeling of knowing something I created is appreciated by someone I don't even know, thrilling!

This got me to thinking. How do I pay that feeling forward?

I decided to do a few shout outs of my own.

So I think a few times a month I will create a post based on blog posts that recently inspire me.

We all do a lot of reading and commenting, but is there ever a time when you have sent a friend over to read something that particularly inspired you? Or made you laugh? Or left you feeling crafty? Or tugged at your heart? Or made you wish you were a baker (OK, maybe that last one is just me)?

It happens to me all the time and I tend to use the little envelope button at the bottom of people's posts to SHARE via email.

These Bloggy Shouts Outs will be that idea, just on a grander scale...because often I find myself wanting everyone I love to soak up that kind of bloggy goodness.

So, let the bloggy shout outs begin.

First we need a cute button...for the people who are featured. So if you are featured grab the Bloggy Shout Out button from my sidebar...You. Are. Welcome.

My first Bloggy Shout Out goes to:

Making the World Cuter for a clever (and cute) way of getting the kids to not only help out with chores but also learn the value of money, saving, and spending. Brilliant! A must read for all cute, fun moms and dads who want their kids to grow up and be financially responsible and learn the value of work.

I have spent a lot of time thinking about ways that I can make healthier choices. Y'all know this already, since I love to share. But my bloggy friend Janna from Happiness is a Journey truly inspires me. She photographs everything the eats...everyday, and posts them on her blog. It is her way of of tracking herself and keeping it real, honest, brave...awesome!

Not Your Average Teen is a fairly new blogger who was recently featured on SITS. I came across her blog about a month ago and added her to my reader. I love the way this girl writes and I love her 18 yr old perspective on the world around her and life in general. Since J is entering High School i figured I could learn a thing or two from a teen like Brittany Ciara. OH and she is also a new blog designer, she is saving money for college tuition, and is very affordable.

Mimi from Living in France wrote an amazing post on Raising Awareness on Multiple Sclerosis she even kept it sexy in true Mimi fashion. I am really hoping you will take a minute to go read this, it's very informative and a good read.

And Lastly, (but not leastly) I love to cook, love it! Baking is not something I have ever been truly successful with. Well Joy's Hope has a recipe for Salty Caramel Cupcakes that make me droooool. I know there go the healthy choices right? Well the good thing is, I am not a baker. The bad thing? There isn't one...hello did you hear me Salty Caramel Cupcakes!!! Go get the recipe...and send me one, please.

I hope you will take a minute and stop in and see the awesomeness that I saw and tell them Mamarazzi sent ya!

So, read anything lately that you think I should know about? Click that little envelope button and send it to me mamarazziblog at yahoo dot com. I mean since I shared this awesomeness with you and everything, it's only fair right?

* A Swap Angel is someone willing to put together another package and send it off in a few days notice IF someone does not receive a package from their partner.
* If you SUCCESSFULLY participated in ShortMama's Spring Swap (and KNOW you are not on her naughty list) but have never swapped with me before you are on my special invite list and are welcome to play. PLEASE leave your partner's name for that swap too so I don't match you up w/ the same person again...there is a spot for this on the form.
* If you are an active but new blogger or aren't sure if you meet the requirements send me an email I am always willing to consider adding a few newbies...let's talk.

Please do NOT link up until you receive the code for the R,W&B button from me and have created your blog post. Link up THAT post. Only link once, if you mess up I will fix it...linking more than once messes up the #s. Don't leave more than your pseudo name OR first name & last initial...it junks up the links and disturbs my sense of order. Am I being bossy enough? *wink*

Enough About MY Muffin Top

weightloss
Ok so a few weeks ago I chose 3 things that I could do to be more healthy. Just 3 little things that I could change...this is what I came up with:

1. No carbs after 6pm
Now I know this sounds a little more of a BIG thing than a small thing but really think of all the awesome foods out there that are totally carb free...it's not impossible. I WILL allow myself LOW carbs (no more than 20 total) on special occasions. I have really learned since my Type 2 Diabetes diagnosis that eating low/no carb is really easy.
2. More water, at least 10 8oz glasses a day
girls, I love my diet pepsi, I will not be giving it up...I will however not keep it in the house. I have one more case in my garage...after that is gone, I will not be buying more. I prefer my diet pepsi from a fountain, in a cup, over ice balls, with a lid and a straw, preferably delivered by Big Daddy, it always tastes better that way. So all other beverages will be water.
3. 30 min exercise 3 days a week
We have a family gym membership. I never use it. That's pathetic. So I will start this week...30 minutes on the circuit, or water aerobics, or a zumba class...something even if its just a 30 min jog on the treadmill.

OK I have not been perfect. This last week was a rough one for me. I have had a lot on my mind and haven't had a normal sleep schedule and Aunt Flo was here (TMI?) sooooo, it was just kind of bad all the way around.

So instead of dwelling on everything that went wrong, I am giving myself a pass.

I can do that. It's my body. You can give yourself a pass to, really, it's OK!

I plan on going BACK to my healthier choices tomorrow.

But I do want to share one success story with you...Big Daddy's.
For those of you who have been reading my blog for a few years you know that Big Daddy has been losing weight.

Over the course of a year MY man dropped 140 lbs. He did have gastric bypass surgery to help him get started. But I have to tell you we know someone who had surgery the year before him and she is fat again (can you imagine going through all that and then letting yourself get fat again? Crazy! I mean you are risking your life going under...but I digress, you have to really want to change, it's not an easy fix, that's all I am saying).

So it does take work...hard work.

He has kept the weight off for a FULL year now.

And he is currently training for his first 10K.

He has been running everyday and has a 10 min mile, which is pretty good, especially for a guy who just started running.

The other day he went for a run and when he came home I took one look at him and noticed something was wrong.

"Oh no!" I said, "Did you fall down? Are You OK?"

He said, "Yeah, there was a crack in the sidewalk and I landed hard, but I didn't drop my phone AND I got up really fast."

"Are you OK?" I asked, "Uhhh, did anyone see you?"

"Yes, but I was FAST" he laughed.

I have seen Big Daddy fall before, he does get up fast...so fast that you wonder if you really saw him just fall. Cat-like!!

So he asked me to take a picture of his owies for his blog. So I thought I would share the pic with you too.

Cuz really, it sucks that he is thin and I have a muffin top.

I kid, I kid.

I am happy for him and proud of his accomplishments. I love that he made the choice to be healthy for HEALTH reasons and not vanity. Happy that he chose LIFE and that he is really living it, for him self, for me, for our family.

Here is his first year in review...2008-2009.
Hopefully I will have a better report for next week, but for now be inspired by Big Daddy...he may need a new pseudo name.

My Awesome Sister Meg and 2 Winners

My sister Meg has a private blog. She is hilarious and this kind of goodness is meant to be shared with the world. Not just a few "invited guests". I understand her reasons for going private, and respect them.

I got special permission to steal this post for your viewing pleasure. The videos are hilarious.

You might want to pee first.

I am also announcing winners for my Big Bloggy Reveal Giveaway at the bottom. Congrats to the winners and thanks to everyone who entered.

But hey, there are no losers. Everyone wins today with video goodness like this...enjoy!

Ladies and Gentleman,
it's Groundhog Day.

After discovering Punxatawny Phil's nasty little lair under my deck out back, I filled his hole with water and flushed him out. I was certain that the arrival of the 4 ft snake and the completion of our fence would keep Lil' Phil from returning to my garden for lunch, but...

I was wrong.
He is back.

I saw him today, making his way across my yard. Headed for my garden! "He was robbing me, raping me! Rooting through my rutabaga, raiding my arugula and ripping up the rampion, my champion! My favorite!..."

I'm sure he just laughed at my feeble attempt to keep him out with a wire fence. I just assumed that after all the lettuce he's been helping himself to this week, that he'd eventually be too fat to fit through the wire holes. Well, he's almost too fat.

I'd had enough.
So I caught him.

And as a special treat for the 3 of you out there who still read this blog, I give you video coverage.

Grab some popcorn, and enjoy the show.
(the videos are about 1 min each)

Attempt #1: Meg's butt tries to catch a groudhog (but mostly Meg's butt....my trash is not really that big, Reese was holding the camera, ok?)
video

Attempt #2: It's in the bag...er...bucket
video

I LOVE Reese's, "Get him, mommy!" It reminds me of the scene at the end of Monster's Inc. when Randal gets stuck in a trailer and the Hillbillies chase him around, bopping him on the head with a frying pan screaming, "Git him, Momma! Git that ugly gator!"

Reese wants to "keep him as a pet, and name him Buttercup."
Quincy wants the "snake to come eat him up in the cage."

I want to pop him on the head with a shovel, because I think it would make me extra cool if I could say that I killed it, but as you can see from the video, I'm not exactly tough.

One thing is certain, Lil' Phil has got to go.

I have something very special planned for him. Very special. I promise it will not disappoint.
Until then, I'll be singing, "Don't you ever never ever mess around with my greens!"

To be continued....

I cannot WAIT for part 2...I know how it all ends, but YOU will have to wait!!

In the meantime I want to announce the winners of the Starbucks and Borders Gift Cards

The $10 Starbucks card goes to Sandy from Moments of Mommyhood

The $20 Borders card goes to Kimert from Diaries of a Coach's Wife

Congrats ladies, email me your addresses and I will shoot them off in the mail for ya. Thanks to everyone who entered!!

Paper Polka Dots A Tutorial

So many people fell in love with the Polka Dots I made for the PINK room that I decided to share a tutorial. I loved them so much that I made them for our game room. So this time I took a few pictures AS I was making them, for you.

You. Are. Welcome.

Here is the final result...again, I am in love!

Step 1: pick out some papers you love.

Step 2 make sure you have 2 of each paper make sure they are square
I like a few sizes 10x10, 6x6 and 4x4

Step 3 start making a fan fold, do your best to keep the folds even

Step 4 it doesn't have to be perfect, just close to the same size folds.

Step 5 grab your first "fan" and use it as a guide for your folds for fan two
(repeat steps 3 & 4)

Step 6 Fold in half making sure your ends match

Step 7 use tape to hold fans together at seams
I like my tape to go all the way to the edge so I tape past the ends

Step 8 continue taping seams (on back side) all the way around

Step 9 Trim off any tape hanging off edges

Step 10...use a piece of rafia or ribbon to secure the 2 fans together
(I forgot to take a picture of this, I just think it gives it a more finished look)
repeat repeat repeat...until you have the amount you like

Step 11 use wall putty to attach them

Step 11 OPTIONAL once you have them where you want them you
can secure them by driving a 2" finishing nail through the center

I guess I could show you the rest of the game room
as long as you are here, may as well right?!
This room is used mostly by J and her friends. J also
does her little babysitting business in this room AND
My nieces and nephews like it when they come to play,
hence the toys for little ones mixed with the teen hangout stuff.

This is Bella, she was totally annoyed by my presence during her nap.

The view from the entrance to game room

The view from my kitchen table.

My plan is to cover the fireplace, we don't use this one.
So consider this a "before" picture, the "after" looks
SUPER CUTE in my head...stay tuned.

I also need some ideas for the mantle, something
kid friendly and colorful. Any suggestions?

I also need ideas for this wall, it still has the pictures hanging there
from when this was our family room. I put my formal living room
in storage and that room is now our family room (the game room
use to be in the back of the house and is now J's new bedroom)

So there ya have it. Paper Polka Dots. I would love to take credit for this idea but I found the idea on another blog Blue Cricket Design. Mine are a little different, she used hot glue to put hers together. I was worried about the weight of the hot glue, so I opted for tape.
