Wee Bit of Me Wednesday

Photobucket
{one} did you buy a christmas tree this year?
Nope. We have a pretty realistic looking artificial tree. I have had it for like 20 years and it loses needles just like a real tree.

{two} what is your favorite holiday tradition?
We do most of our traditions on Christmas Eve. When I was a kid my family would go caroling and deliver pumpkin bread to our friends. I loved that. We also chose 2 families to secretly do The 12 Days of Christmas for and reveal on Christmas Eve. When we move out of this lame town we live in I am hoping to start these traditions up again. OK maybe not the caroling, but most def the 12 Days.

{three} do you open your gifts on christmas eve or christmas day?
Christmas morning.

{four} at what age did you stop believing in santa claus?
Wait. What? I STILL believe in Santa.

{five} do you fill stockings?
Big Daddy and I just exchange stockings with each other and Santa takes care of the rest.

{six} handmade presents or store bought presents?
A little of both.

{seven} do you have a favorite Christmas meal?
YES! My dad always makes the best roast...like half a cow and it is AMAZING. My mom makes the BEST potatoes as one of the side dishes too...oh and these heart attack veggies...YUM!

{eight} is your Christmas tree real or artificial?
Artificial...who needs the work that comes with the real tree, highly overrated. But I do miss the smell of the real thing.

{nine} what is your favorite Christmas song?
Breath of Heaven by Amy Grant. It is a song about what Mary must have felt carrying the Son of God. It is beautiful.

{ten} did you send out christmas cards this year?
Almost. I have them all addressed and stamped and I am waiting for some return address labels I ordered to arrive...I am running out of patience. They go out tomorrow labels or not.

I don't ever send out cards. It is an emotional reaction to my mother's great love of hallmark.

I have a fake tree. People give me crap about it too because I live in OR where real trees abound. I don't care. I don't want some spider's nest in my house or anything. So there.

I think you should start your 12 days of Christmas in the town you are in now. Maybe it will lighten your heart/feelings on living there. Maybe a neighbor or firend really needs someone like you to brighten their livfe at the moment. Just a thought. We did the 12 days of Christmas growing up too...favorite Christmas memories ever. We are doing it right now with the boys. Love the excitement as we doorbell ditch and run to the car as Brody tells John to hit it :-).
p.s. I a waiting for UPS to deliver some of my Christmas cards... he should be here any minute. I am TIRED of waiting.

I love that Amy Grant song. And there's a new one I found by Corinne May (I think) about Mary. Truly moving.

I always have a real tree, but as I get older I think an artificial one would be super awesome. Hmmm maybe one day??? Uggghhh Christmas cards... isn't it sooo annoying waiting to send them out. Mine sat for a few days before I could get to the Post Office to buy stamps. Grrr.
