Well Hermie died...like 5 months ago.
He was trying to change shells and the shell he was trying to move into had food in it...we had friends over the weekend before and I vaguely remember their little guy asking if he could "feed the crab". Ooops!
ANYWAY...J and her BFF Emma had a sleepover this weekend and decided that it was time to take Hermie's dried up body from his cage and bury him.
Yep...dead. In a cage. For 5 months.
Where the heck is my Mother of The Year award?
So the girls dressed up all in black and sat down to write the Eulogy.
Then they brought Hermie's cage into the kitchen and used a spoon to remove him from the cage.
This is such serious business...body removal.
Then they went out to the front yard to bury Hermie under the lavender. In case you missed any of that since my neighbor's RUDE dog was barking in the background, and the ice cream truck was driving by (I am sure Hermie loved that touch...mmm icecream)...
J said, "Hermie was a wonderful crab. I loved seeing him crawl around and holding him. My BFF Emma was afraid of you. You loved to drink water under your umbrella, it's right here. You had a good life. Amen, Jordan."
Emma said, "Even though Hermie grossed me out, when I got to know him, he changed my whole perspective on Hermit Crabs. I'll miss you Hermie"
Poor sweet Hermie...

OK... that was HILARIOUS! Loved it! What funny girls.
Oh my goodness I'm LOVING all the giggling! Cracking me up and too stinking cute. Sorry to hear about Hermie's demise five months ago. ;)
Awwwww how sad (but funny too).
I had hermit crabs in college. I went to work in DC for a summer and left them with my debate partner and he killed them both. We did not have a funeral.
I remember doing that with my hermit crab when I was about that age... how sweet... totally hilarious, but really sweet :)
Better late than never for a proper burial:-)
Oh my gosh, that is hysterical!! Especially after so much time...I love it!
I know it's supposed to be sad but that really is FUNNY!!!
well, hermie had a good run.
I miss you.
and J, and Fonz.
Hermie not so much, but I'm sure he'll forgive me for that.
I haven't texted you today because I did homework ALL DAY LONG. We found some hot tix to Florida, so we booked 'em stat, and moved our trip date to next weekend...which means I'll be missing class on the day all of our final assignments/projects are due.
Which means I have 24 hrs to write 5 papers.
Which also means I shouldn't be on your blog, but I miss you so I am anyway. I'll call you later. Love yOU!
that is funny (in an odd way?) that they dressed in black and did the eulogy!! poor hermie; had to wait 5 months for a proper burial!
This is too funny! I think the fact that she had the hermit crab for so long, is props to her responsibility, or yours...
I had a hermit crab once, and I'm pretty sure it was dead in a couple of weeks. I don't do well with "creepy crawlies". Oh, and I had a tadpole once that stayed in a bowl, dead, for months. And that sucker smelled BAD!! Guess what I'm trying to say, is you're not the only one that leaves dead things un-memorialized. I've done it too!
Reminds me of the endless fish funerals my sister seemed to hold as a kid.
LOL the pictures tells more story and I love those faces. Deep condolences for Hermie's passing tho'.
Happy SITS Tuesday
oh sad...
i love that he is now resting under a tropical umbrella! That is how Hermie would have liked it!!! ;)
Teenage girls are so fun! or just plain funny! Can I say that about a funeral? Sorry. RIP Hermie. RIP.
