Powerboats and a Train Ride

Saturday morning we woke up, had a yummy pancake breakfast then loaded up to head to Lowe's for their Build and Grow Clinic. Let me tell you this was FABULOUS! Lowe's offers these workshops on Saturday mornings for FREE...all you need to do is RSVP on their website. The kids made a powerboat (RSVP for THIS adorable school bus they are offering Aug 22.) using cute little hammers and nails. They each got to take home the powerboat (I forgot to take pictures of them with them in the pool...they really worked) a Lowe's apron, safety goggles a certificate and an iron on patch for their scout uniforms...so stinking cool!
We came home and grabbed a quick lunch then hit the road to Jamestown where we jumped on a steam train for a 45 minute ride. It was awesome. The people there were darling, all volunteers who love working at this Historic State Park. The kids enjoyed the train ride then playing around afterwards...for $3 a kid you can't beat the experience.
Their Train ride inspired them to create their own tracks when we came home...hours of fun!
Our featured "Camper" is Garrett...
Garrett 10 and is my brother Mark's oldest son. He loves to make people laugh and has such a fun personality. Garrett likes to "wake board and snowboard, cuz if you fall it doesn't hurt cuz it's water or snow, and because I am good at both." His favorite food is "apples, cuz they are juicy" When asked what he has enjoyed most about Camp Vasquez he said, "Building the powerboats and doing crafts. I also liked the Jelly Belly Factory because everything they said was stuff I didn't know, same with the train place. Oh and I liked getting the Jelly Bellys at the end." As for what he is looking forward to he says, "I'm really looking forward to seeing G-Force in 3D on Friday." and he says that Camp Vasquez is, "Just really fun!"
We love the faces Garrett makes in just about EVERY picture we take and truly love his competitive nature...he will draaaaag his partner just to win a 3 legged race!
more to come....

that last picture of G tied to Stinky made me laugh so hard!!! I am totally going to register Reese to make something at Lowe's. She needs to get used to using tools now, so I can start breaking child labor laws when I'm ready to add onto our house :).

And, dude, I wanna go on a steam train! very cool.

I love the creative ideas you have posted here that families in their own areas can use.

I love the Lowes' clinic and perhaps once we finish with roller skating lessons, that will be our next venture. I love the ones they have for parents too!

Love and Hugs ~ Kat
