Dancing Queen Take 6

Every few months our church hosts Cotillion for the 12 and 13 yr old boys and girls. The purpose of cotillions are to teach the kids proper dance etiquette and manners. They also usually have a theme for the type of dances they are instructed in and are basically a whole lot of fun. This was Jordan's fourth cotillion you can read about the first few here Dancing Queen and Dancing Queen Take 2, Dancing Queen Take 4 and Dancing Queen Take 5. You can also read about the Middle School dance HERE where she had her first chance to try out some of her moves. Again I got more video than pictures none of my pictures turned out great (the lighting was bad, I need a better camera). J prefers video to pictures anyway "the flash is not so subtle, but video can be all stealthish". I caught some REALLY sweet moments that are sure to make you laugh. None of the videos are very long (I think in total they are not more than 3 min), so take a minute to watch them, you will be glad you did...especially if you know J and her personality...hilarious!

The theme for cotillion this month was Disco..and oh what a riot.

Trying to get a spin down...wait is it called a spin?

GOT it...woo hoo!

So at each cotillion they have a "refreshment dance". All of the girls sit on one side of the room and the boys are encouraged to choose a partner. They select a girl and dance until one of the hosts excuse them to go to the refreshment table. The girls are instructed to get 2 napkins and 2 cookies and the boys get 2 drinks. Then they walk together to sit down and are encouraged to visit.

There is a boy who J knows pretty well from youth activities. His name is Jimmie, he is adorable and they are friends. Well when they announced the boys could select a partner for the refreshment dance Jimmy RAN across the auditorium to get to J first, it was ADORABLE and I totally wish I caught it on video.

Walking to their seats...I know y'all are impressed with my stealth like video skills. I was sitting VERY casually with my camera resting on my knee...I am awesome like that!

The Hustle...kinda.

The ChaCha...kinda. Its either this one or the next that a girl ends up being her partner (that whole more girls than boys thing) half way through and J cracks up dancing with her...pretty funny!

The Convo on the ride home:

J: Did you see Jimmy practically run to ask me to dance?
Me: Yeah I sure did!
J: Do you think he did that because Sammy and I are friends and she wasn't there so he asked me?
Me: No, I think he did that because you are a cute, fun girl and he wanted to dance with you.
J: So, he wanted to get to me before someone else asked me to dance?
Me: Oh, yes...totally. Don't you think?
J: Yes, I do think so.
Me: me too, fun right?
J: (HUGE SMILE) Yeah, it feels good. I gotta call Grandma

Jordan immediately calls and Grandpa answers the phone...
J: Hi Grandpa, well it's official, I am the girl all the boys want to dance with!!!

OH my...all the giggly girly goodness. I love nights like these. I love that she shares them with us. I love Jordan. AND I love that she asks to see the video as soon as we get in the car...so cool!

GIDDY!
so stinking CUTE!

how fun to have it all recorded casually.
WHAT I WOULDN'T GIVE for video of me at the dance back in my heyday!
all i have are the fond memories in my minds eye.

lucky girl!

WHOOHOOO! Jimmie!
way to go big fella!

although i hate to burst bubbles but people do do the next best thing dance partnering. I SO DID THAT, if my 'boyfriend' wasn't there, i would dance with his friend which was the next best thing. he ended up in love with me, and took me to prom YEARS later. i wrote him as a missionary, dear johned him. and OH YEAH he was my stalker this year with the facebook unfriending drama, and blog stalking.

and all because he was the next best thing.

but maybe it's only girls are that mean. i was so mean.

I love that you share all this fun with us. And I'm totally impressed with Jordan, who is so cool to let her mom videotape her dance, which is something my kids would NEVER let me do. Way to go.

It's so awesome that you took all that video! I swear that music was from when I used to go to dances a million years ago!

The conversation on the way home is priceless. Nothing better than a girl with good self esteem!

That is so cute! Thanks for sharing.

I would love it if my girls would have something like this to attend. At school in first grade they had a tea party that taught them to be little ladies and gentlemen. Fun times! :)

Oh my goodness, how FUN! It cracks me up how tall some of those boys are--they must be at the age where boys have a massive growth spurt! Jordan is like, the coolest girl EVER.
