THIS is the reason why it means so much to me: my kid loves it.
Yep. That's it.
It is a simple thing that we do as a family that makes my kid feel valued and loved.
She knows that this time we spend together as a family is precious.
She knows that we value this time with her.
She knows we look forward to it.
She knows that nothing else matters to us in that moment that we are together as a family.
She KNOWS all of this.
It was super fun to read her observations, thoughts and feelings about game time.
And...it made me cry. Grateful happy tears of course.
I love this girl so much.
I can't give her a lot of things her heart desires, but I CAN give her myself and the gift of my time.
It seems that is good enough for her, and thats cool.
I scanned her final copy below (errors and all). You can click on it to make it bigger.
Bloggy friends...spend time PLAYING with your kids, it matters to them.

Our family loves game time! We have vowed as parents to have a family fun game night at least once a month when they get older and maybe even more often!
I also clicked on the fish today to get some ideas for keeping kids active...great info source!
we love playing uno with our kids. I love just driving with them too.Its amazing what you can learn.
Jordan, my favorite thing about your paper is how you were so descriptive! You made us hear it, smell it, see it, and feel it! Plus, I just love how your game time is such a great, happy time together for your whole family! You did a great job!
Oh, and Mamarazzi - I clicked! Porter is soooo enjoying playing Mix-up Adventures (on fishfulthinking's kid site) especially when he gets to sit on my lap and read them with me!

That was a great paper Jordan. Mamarazzi I clicked!
WOW! That gave me goosebumps. That's a rare parenting moment right there, when you actually get to HEAR from the mouths of your babes that you've done something right! Thanks for sharing it. Mine are 2 and new, but when they are just a bit older, we'll definitely try this at least a few nights a week. And thanks for coming to visit my blog. Never expected that! I felt like a celebrity had come to visit, LOL! Oh, and I'm clicking the fish as I sign off....
I clicked :D

Dude, your kid rocks, and that means that as a Mom, you rock! You're doing a great job!
that is awesome she loves it so much to write about it.
sadly i don't think it would work for us mostly because by the end of dinner that is nonstop talking loud and often annoying. i'm ready to yell at everyone to freaking leave the dang table and give me a minute to think, or talk to dad alone. or just breathe. i just don't have the patience. and maybe it's the herd of kids, or maybe it's just been a long day every day. i'm sure it's all my fault it would not be feasible. maybe when they are all a little older. right now? i'm a lunatic.
i clicked twice.
100% true. We do this in the Trenches. Uno, Chutes & Ladders, Scrabble Jr., Hullaballoo...
I love reading your posts about Jordan, because it really validates what I'm doing with my little ones (4 and 1). *sheds tear*
I LOVE IT!!!!
You know what I love best about that essay? She didn't say "What I love best about my parents is the 32-inch flat screen t.v. they bought me in my bedroom" or even "The 12 times they took me to Disneyland" or "I know my parents love me becuase I have the cutest clothes and sassiest hair style of all my friends." What she loves best is what we can give the easiest...because it's free and it's important and we owe it to them and to us. Our time. Lots and lots of it..
This is a great blog! Glad I found you. I'm also a great fan of home evenings and family games - even written a book about FHE :-)
Just dropping by to let you know I have a super give-away contest running this week (and every week) on my LDS blog at Not Entirely British
This time, the prize is a copy of award-winning author Annette Lyon's latest release in her Temple series - Tower of Strength.
Hope you have time to hop on over and take a peek.
That's such a sweet post! I wish I didn't work at night so we could play more games with the kids. I do really enjoy doing it when I'm off.
Thanks for being such a good example!
