Black Eye...OH My!

Jordan fainted in Gym class on Monday. She is sporting a sweet shiner now after her face broke her fall on the blacktop. She hat a nice fat lip too but the swelling went down from that pretty quickly. We decided that since it was a head injury and that we didn't actually witness what happened (not that it would have mattered a whole lot but we would have an actual account of the events leading up to it) that we would take her to see the her Doctor. Jordan is just getting over a pretty nasty cold and has a lingering cough. From what the Doctor was able to assess based on Jordan's account and the story we got from her gym teacher, is that she may have just been a little dehydrated and out of breath. That coupled with some 'girly' issues made her faint.

Her Doctor recommended adding some iron to her regular vitamin intake and she now knows when she starts to feel that way again that she needs to sit down.

Basically I think it scared us all more than anything else. It took a few hours for Jordan to get her coloring back and her eyes were totally dilated when Big Daddy went and picked her up at school. Poor kid...

The best quotes about this:

"My black eye kinda makes me look tough, like 'don't mess with me', kinda, huh?"

"A kid fainting in gym class is something that goes down in history, kids will be talking about this for a long time"

At least she has a good attitude about it!

tough girl
"you want a piece of me?"
"juuuust kidding"
J decided a "dressier outfit" for the day might "distract people" from the shiner. Do you love the boots we got on clearance for $3?!?! Cute right?! I love how this girl goes from wearing all black some weeks to pink and girly the next. It's been fun watching her decide on her own style as she gets older AND I love that she likes rocking the side pony. OH and I had the nurse measure her because she seems to be growing at light speed. She is 5'3" now. I can hardly believe it.
So that's how our week started...how are y'all?

At least its a "cool" shiner not the nasty one that makes your whites of your eye turn red.

She certainly is rocking the "I'm tough" look.

Aw Jordan! YOu are so tough!

I fainted once when I was a freshamn in high school (in the shower of all place...my mom heard a "thump" and came to rescue me). Turns out it was "girly" issues for me too. I was on iron supplements for a few months!

YOu are not alone Jordan! I can relate!

OH the shiner ... those kiddos will be shaking in their boots as long as that's there. Tell her to make sure she cracks a smile every once in a while to let them relax! :-)

And, 5'3?! She's taller than me!!

Last year...my dd (then in 2nd grade) made a name for herself passing out. A boy in her class slipped on the stairs and spit is head...and we all know how much those bleed...he walked back to the classroom just spewing blood...My dd was standing at her desk...and just fell to the floor. She SWEARS to this day that is NOT what happened...but she is known as the girl who passed out...lol...

Whew, I'm glad she is ok!! Love her outfit! Boy, this is NOT a week for healthy kids. We spent the weekend in the Children's ER with Chunky Monkey. We were NOT impressed with our doctor, and left more angry and confused than before we went! Poor kid has been sick for two weeks now. I wish that spring would hurry up and be sprung already!!

I also can't believe how tall she is...taller than me!

Have a great week.

I had a black eye one time around that age (actually from a kung fu class) & I had so much fun making up stories about it! :-)

glad jordan is alright. i passed out in school when i was in 8th grade. my face cushioned my fall, too, fat lip and chipped teeth...and the ever so pleasant memory of being known as the girl who passed out at lunch time (i was in the lunch line :-/) at least she's tougher and gets over that quickly...she's handling it all well. :)

Glad Jordan is on the mend! Cool outfit!

And yes, "those" incidents do go down in school history. Like the time ours was little & the class was in a circle & she just suddenly barfed with no warning! Fortunately, the kids thought this was cool!

Ouch! Glad your okay Jordan!

She's totally famous at school now! :)

I got a black eye tubing one winter and didn't want to go to school because I thought it would start rumors that someone beat me up. Jordan is much braver than me!

My big P.E. Story: While playing tennis one day, some girl called my name from across the courts behind me. I turned to look and got a full-speed tennis ball in my open eye. OUCH!

Super cute outfit and boots! Really smart to look your best when you're getting some extra attention J! (Sadie is 5'3" too!)

She is so right! When you're a kid, having a black eye AND being the person who fainted in gym class is sure to make you a celebrity, at least for a little while!

So glad she's okay! She does wear the shiner well. :)

Poor Jordan! I'm glad she's taking it well and not too embarrassed about the black eye. I'm also glad it didn't turn out to be anything too serious. That had to be scary for all of you.

Just wanted to say Hi. I haven't commented in a while and I didn't want you to think I'd forgotten you. I still read, but I do it in Google reader, so I don't visit in person as much.

Hope Jordan is OK. I had a black eye once, VERY embarassing, but I was a few years older and everyone assumed that my 5'3" boyfriend had smacked me. Don't know why, I could have taken him apart with one hand tied behind my back. I did it in gym class, just like Jordan. Playing volleyball in my case.

she looked very chic ,good call to draw attention away from the shiner.
love the side pony. Joy wears one sometimes and it totally suits her personality. LOVE IT!

good call on getting checked out.
WHOOHOO for being so tall!

Ouch! That looks like it hurt! But Jordan is a tough one isn't she!

What black eye??? You look cute as ever.

I think you just smudged a little dirt on to not look "too" perfect. Just kidding. Your outfit totally did the job, though... good thinking. Hope you are feeling better.
