WordFUL Wednesday: The Frog Whisperer

Readers, old and new, have been asking about the significance of the frog poking out of "Jordan's" purse in our header. Jordan is the frog whisperer. She is ALL things girlie, loves glitter and the color pink but also has a true affinity for frogs. We have a family of frogs that have been living in our back yard by the pool for the last three years. Jordan has mastered the art of seducing them from their home so she can play with them for a little while. I am not exaggerating when I tell you that the girl can take a hose put a little water in a bush and they will emerge within seconds from the roots where they live. One by one they come out to say hello, to get a little love and talk to Jordan. I think they trust her since she always returns them back to their home with care. She earned the title of The Frog Whisperer by some of our bloggy friends. I am only posting a few of the pictures we have taken over the last 3 yrs of Jordan and her frogs Fatty, Poppers and Squeak. I have MANY pictures of her and her beloved little friends to choose from, these are my favorites.

Fatty, Poppers and Squeak

their flooded home K and Jordan with Squeak (J says she knows who is who, I believe her) "Say hello to my little friend" (K is actually about a foot taller than J but is leaning back and stepping down off the sidewalk to keep a distance from the frog. J thinks this is HILARIOUS!!) click this one to make bigger J's eyes are amazing in this pic This is Moe he use to live in our front yard. We haven't seen him since this pic in 2006 (my fave part of this pic is the chocolate on her lips when you make the pic bigger) Scroll down for the VIDEO of J catching Fatty and Poppers Fatty and Squeak hose added, waiting for the frogs to appear Will it turn into a prince? Let's wait another 10 yrs (at least) to find out!!

She could do this all day long and never get tired of it. Here she demonstrates her hunting skills for Grandma and Grandpa Machado:

Step One: flood frog's home with water

Step Two: wait patiently

Step Three: when they come up and ask "what the...?" grab them FAST!

Step Four: giggle your butt off

video

once you have a frog...find its buddy by repeating steps one thru four....ESPECIALLY Step Four!!

video

ok so i know you need to kiss a lot of frogs before you find your prince, i get that *wink*...but...i have never heard about the frogs kissing each other...until now (only Jordan could come up with this silly stuff)!

I love those cute little freckles on her nose. Looking at those pictures and videos, reminds you that you don't have to worry about any princes for a long time. She's still playing with frogs :)

Ya' know, I found myself saying "eww!" when I was looking at the pics... but I used to hold frogs and lizards and such when I was younger too! I don't know when I turned into such a sissy?!

I love the one where they are giving the frog a kissy face!

So cute...she sure loves those frogs. I would be with the girl leaning back and off the sidewalk to look but hoping they wouldn't jump on me...and touching, absolutely not! LOL

You know, I LOVE frogs. Everytime I see one around the house and the pool I must pick it up. I'm not beyond the smooches too. I save so many too that nestle in to the pool tiles. I do get a little giddy picking up the real fat ones but it's fun!!!! I loved this post!!!!

She's too funny with those frogs! HA HA! There's no way I would pick those things up, prince or not!

And Fatty is definitely appropriately named isn't he/she? ; )

Love the videos!

The frog-whisperer strikes again. I can just see the four steps, especially the giggling. Hey, I wanted to let you know that I've made that chicken pot pie on the fly three times already. Every kid that's ever tried it ends up licking his or her plate. There are few things that have been such a huge culinary success around here! So thanks for the recipe!

Visiting from Wordful Wednesday...

Love this post! I'm totally impressed that your daughter can actually hold frogs...I don't think I could. I'm a total freak that way! What a unique talent ... perhaps she'll have a show called "The Frog Whisperer" someday like that dog guy!

Precious! She is just adorable!I scarred Ryder for life when it comes to frogs. Brian wanted him to hold one so he put it on the ground and it leaped forward. Without even thinking I screamed at the top of my lungs and sent Ryder into a tizy. It was horrible and I will be forever blamed for his fear of frogs.

I think it is too cute that J knows who is who too. Very intuitive. :o)

Cute pics! I would NOT be able to make myself touch those frogs though....ewwww!

It's nice that J loves glitter and girls stuff, but I like that she is into nature too. Hey has she ever asked if her warts came from the frogs? or does she already know that is a myth?

That is so dang cute. She is such a little doll. And boy would she have a great time at our house. We have about 4 different species for frogs that live in our Koi pond. I have to fish them out of the pool every morning so they don't drown while I'm at work (they can't get out on their own..except the really big ones) There have been times that I'll have a dozen or more frogs swimming around our pool! I wish I had Jordan here to whisper them out for me!!

that is sooo cool!!!!

Dont tell Jordan okay?? One time I stepped on a frog...i was running through the backyard barefoot...i felt really bad...I have never gotten over it. Never. I dont often run barefoot through the backyard anymore....I am glad for people like Jordan who take care of Frogs. Though I am not much on holding them :)

I never noticed that frog in the purse before! Your daughter is beautiful and so sweet-love the froggy pictures! I have a daughter who is also a girlie-girl and there's a picture of her I absolutely love-she's in a pink tutu, hair in ringlets and she's sitting in the dirt holding 2 worms with a big smile on her face!

I commend you and your daughter for bravery.

When I come home late at night and it's been raining and frogs are just sitting by my stairs...I run screaming back to my car. Once, I called my husband to come help me. He told me to be a big girl and just march past them...

((sigh))I don't even know if I could hold a camera while my daughter held one....I'm fainting as I think about it. :) :)

Frogs are so neat. How fun to have them as wild pets in your backyard. :)

Okay that is too funny! I love how she can tell the difference between her froggy friends:)

Not a big frog fan. I do not want to know how to catch them. I skipped those steps. Your girlie is beautiful even if she does touch frogs. LOL

Lindsay said...

I never realized frogs could sound like that! Maybe that's their distressed "don't feed me to the dog!" noise. :-) So cute.

It TOTALLY cracks me up when she makes the frogs kiss. And it sounds like they are singing in that last clip. Too funny. :-) The peapod squad keep asking to watch these again and again!

Oh Wow - When I first started reading about frogs, I pictured the small little garden hoppers that we have around here - tiny little guys. But these frogs are big, lumpy frogs! And to see a girl holding them - I'm impressed (I'm more of a lizard gal myself, but frogs are cool).

Michele said...

Oh, I love this post. I am a frog lover, too. They're the best. Your daughter is straight out of a fairy tale. Doll!
