Randoms and Bloggy Business

The other night we had a LATE dinner at a local restaurant. It had been a busy day. We had been away for a couple of nights and traveled home just in time to get J changed and to the church for a cotillion (more on that later). She ate a fruit bar in the car to hold her over and we made plans to eat as a family after she was done. ANYWAY we were seated by a table of 8 men who had obviously been there for a while and had set up camp and were having a rousing time. A few of them had been drinking and the expletives were flying. Big Daddy recognized one of the men at the table as a man running for a local political office (we were voting for the other guy). And it became obvious that this was his team and they were winding down together after a long day of whatever politicians do. I get it, you are out with your friends, you are having dinner and totally wrapped up in what is happening at your own table. You might not see a kid close by or even be aware of how loud you are being or the language you are using...and it was after 9pm. It finally got to be too much when the F-bomb was being used as every other word by one of the men there and J took notice. Big Daddy got up from our table and walked over and said, "Hey you guys, I understand you are having a good time and it's late and everything but I have my family here, so could you please just watch the language?" They ALL apologized profusely. "Oh of course, we are so sorry!" I was proud of Big Daddy for saying something. I think he is a wonderful example to our daughter. The men at the table handled themselves with total class and it stopped...totally. We enjoyed the rest of our meal and they enjoyed their evening too. We finished before they left and when we asked for the check the server told us they had taken care of it. I thought that was really classy. I really did appreciate that they did that. We thanked them, they apologized again and said that Big Daddy was a "good man" for calling them on it. DUDE I totally should have ordered dessert LOL...oh and no it did not change our vote BUT we did leave the server a fat tip. On the way home we were talking about it and J said, "I guess it pays to stand up for what is right." True that kiddo, true that.

OK It might seem totally shallow to be dissing the new First Lady's fashion choice the day after such a major moment in American history, but what was up with Michelle's dress last night? Did anyone else think all it needed was 6 more arms and it was a Halloween Costume for a spider? That red looked like an hourglass shape on black widows. I was seriously distracted. Who let her go on stage like that? Not. Cute. Right?! The little girl's looked DARLING (and I am super excited about their new puppy). I'm talking fashion here people...not trying to go political on my blog so Obama lovers put your dukes down mine are NOT up...OK? Obama was not my choice. The people have spoken, let's see what happens!I DO respect the democratic process. God Bless America, please.

I wanna I wanna join PIF!!

That was awesome. Man if people would pick up the tab every time they're being inappropriate and rowdy I'd be eatin' free.

Jen said...

Wow, I love that story about Big Daddy! What an amazing example. It's awesome that the other guys respected your wishes! That doesn't happen often!

Jen said...

I'd LOVE to join PIF!! I'm ALL in! I'll post about it soon :)

About the 1st lady! I thought the same thing!! I thought the dress was HIDEOUS. Let's not beat around the bush here. It was a TERRIBLE choice. Couldn't she find something more classic and appropriate??? HELLO its only one of the most important night of her families life and the entire WORLD was watching..sheesh

Mrs de Miranda said...

Oh yeah, that was awesome that those guys were so good about quitting the language thing. I hate the f-bomb. And that they picked up the tab! woo hoo!

Queen of the Mayhem said...

That is very impressive about Big Daddy! Go him!

The dress was horrific and she is normally so attractive and well dressed!

Obama was certainly not my choice...but I do respect the democratic process...and the people have certainly spoken!

Let's hope we can all come together!

Class on all sides at the restaurant last night-it does my heart good to know that still happens. Didn't notice Michelle's dress because I too was ooh'ing and aah'ing at how cute the little girls were. I wonder what kind of puppy they are getting?

bermudabluez said...

GREAT that your husband stood up and said something! I agree with you....the dress just wasn't a good call....not on THAT night! The MOST important night of your life....

Way to Go Big Daddy!!

Kelly said...

Wow I would never have the courage to do that. Plus, it never fails, if I would have done it they probably would have told me to stick it! Glad it didn't go that way for you though.

Jules said...

That was really cool they did that, even though they shouldn't have been dropping the f bomb to begin with. :)

Free dinner.. yay!

MommyWizdom said...

Wow, Go BIG DADDY! That is an awesome story! Thanks for sharing it! I love hearing stories about great role modeling parents.

banananutmeg said...

oh you KNOW i'm excited about your free dinner! That happened to me once, in HS when I went to a friend's prom, and an older couple was watching our group at dinner and said it had been so long since they'd seen teenagers show such nice manners they they paid for SIX dinners at Shadowbrook! We were stoked (and so was my date..who doesn't like free dinner?)

It DOES pay to stand up for what's right. They could have been rude to you, but you still did what's right, and tonight it pays. yay!

Lori said...

wow, very impressed with the fould mouthed gentlemen toning it down! go Big Daddy!

I did something similar at yosemite this summer, but they continued their vulgar language around the many families there...it was so rude.

love that you got free dinner...classy men!

Shar said...

Wow. What a great example Big Daddy was to Jordan! And really, that was very classy how the men handled themselves.

One of our employees was actin' a fool the other night and spouting off the f-word. I kindly told him he needed to watch his language. Obviously, he didn't know I was the bosses wife, and told me to eff off. He got fired the next day. Who talks to people like that?

Kids these days! :)

I'll play next time k?

That's GREAT that your husband did that. That's a good daddy and husband. There job isn't to not rock the boat, it's to protect and stand up for their family. It's also great that those other men got it. Class all around.

One time we were sitting outside watching the kids play and a car came roaring down our culdesac. When it turned around and came back D stood in the middle of the street so it had to stop. He told them there were kids playing and to stop driving like that. That's a good daddy too.

Crazymamaof6 said...

awesome ! that is so rad those loudmouth men got some manners after a big daddy set them straight. WHOOHOO
and thanks for the rad awards. i'm so stoked. you are awesome.

You definitely should have gone for the dessert!! ;) I totally love your blog too! Thanks for the award.

SuperCoolMom said...

Dang, I'm probably too late for pay-it-forward. So cool that you won! Can't wait to see what you get!

Yes. The dress was a very unflattering choice. She also needs some lessons from Professor Henry Higgins on stance and posture.

Thanks for your input over at myblather. I wish I could make it over here more but I can barely keep up with my own blog, let alone comment on others! I do try though, and I certainly enjoy reading your blog when ever I have a moment. :)

Emily said...

opps, that last message was from me not steve...someone has been using my laptop! :)

Michelle said...

That is totally awesome that Big Daddy did that. We had a situation like that but the guys who were being obnoxious were big scary looking military guys and I begged my husband not to say anything. They weren't men in suits dropping F bombs they were men on leave and looked like they were ready to fight someone.

That was one of the discussions we had at our office. That dress was hideous! We suggested maybe "What Not to Wear" should pay her a visit.

Amy said...

I am so proud of your hubby -- what a great story!

missliss5/Melissa said...

Right ON!!! I just love reading posts like this on your blog. It makes me so proud of your husband and so proud of those of us who hold high standards. And also proud of those men who corrected their behavior and tried to right their wrong by paying for your dinner. Very well done!

Lindsay said...

Wow - I am impressed that hubby went up and said something - what a WONDERFUL example....and I am also impressed at the classy reaction of the "accused!" Seriously - most people would have bawked and done just the opposite. AND to have them pick up your check. Wow - I can't get over that.
