Dancing Queen Take 5

Every few months our church hosts a Cotillion for the 12 and 13 yr old boys and girls. The purpose of the cotillions are to teach the kids proper dance etiquette and manners. They also usually have a theme for the type of dances they are instructed in and are basically a whole lot of fun. This was Jordan's third cotillion you can read about the first few here Dancing Queen and Dancing Queen Take 2, Dancing Queen Take 4. You can also read about the Middle School dance HERE where she had her first chance to try out some of her moves. I ended up getting more video than pictures (the lighting was bad, i need a better camera) including some REALLY sweet moments that are sure to make you laugh. None of the videos are very long, so take a minute to watch them, you will be glad you did...especially if you know J and her personality...hilarious!

The theme for this cotillion was western so J broke out her black hat and pink and black boots and was ready to get her dance on! YEEEEEEE HAAAAWW!the lighting is HORRIBLE but clickety to biggafy to see her adorable boots listening intently to the instructor trying not to make eye contact with her partner i had to just take the color out of the the pics and they are still not greathere she is making a face because the boy was talking too muchand as always a little video for your viewing pleasure

these are all pretty short videos

The best part of the night was the drive home and dinner (remember this post?). As soon as we got in the car J wanted to review all of the video and pictures as she jabbered on about the night. She had a blast! She was chattering on about the dances and the new moves she had learned and how certain boys danced better than others and then she said:

J: OH and a boy flirted with me for the first time.
Me: REALLY?!? how did you know he was flirting with you?
J:He smiled in a flirty way and wiggled his eyebrows
Big Daddy: Sounds like flirting to me.
J: Yeah he is probably driving home right now telling his parents that he flirted with a really cute girl tonight.
Me: do you think he was cute?
J: well his teeth were kind of yellow, so not really.
Big Daddy: aww poor kid, maybe he is a nice boy.
J: well i took my time getting ready for the cotillion and I made sure to brush my teeth. He should have done that too.
Me: Jordan! You sound kind of snotty right now, you don't want to sound like a mean girl do you?
J: no! But I do like clean teeth. AND he isn't really my type anyway.
Big Daddy: yeah you like boys who look like your daddy right?
Me: oh yeah little round Mexican boys like Alejandro
J: Yes, but Alejandro asked me to stop liking him so I am going to respect that.
Big Daddy and Me: BwwwwwwwAHhh Ha hahahaha
J: I bet he would be jealous if he knew other boys were flirting with me though. I need to call Grandma and tell her about this.

And then she spent the rest of the short drive to dinner talking to Big Daddy's folks about her night and the blonde boy who wiggled his eyebrow at her. HILARIOUS!!

Too funny. I can't imagine the teen years and how much hilarity is going to come from them.

Wiggled his eyebrows... so funny. I love it. And it's only going to get worse with those boys!

Sooo cute! :) My girls are little still (5 and 2) but I am already dreading the teen years. :)

Tonya said...

Yay the teen years scare me a bit! But cute videos :)

That's funny! But it makes me realize I'm not ready for my 9yr old(OMG, I just realized she's a tweener) to become a teenager. I don't think I'll survive. She's emotional enough now.

That was so cute!!! I wish I could get my kids to go to more dances like that. My son is more apt to want to go than my daughters. They're shy about dancing and he's a big goofball and doesn't care. Wicked cute!!

How fun! What a smart kid too! I'm with J.. he needs to brush his teeth. At this age it can be hit and miss with the boys though lol!

Looks like she had a great night! What a fun activity!

Looks like she had lots of fun, and that is a great way to get them to socialize.

hee hee hee...love that conversation on the ride home. :)

so the flirting has begun, huh?

Oh, wow, I did cotillion. Gotta love a gym full of pre-pubescent preteens forcing male-female contact and awkward dancing. Fun stuff.

Darling! Can't wait until my little ladies are going to dances. How very sweet. I loooove your blog design, but I think I already told ya that!

What a great idea--a cotillion. Oh how insecure dances can be, but to train the kids on what tgo do, now that's a great idea!

Love the story! What a cute kid she is!

How fun! Sounds like the ride home was even more eventful than the Cotillion! Those were always so fun when I was younger. And yes, there were always boy stories to share with friends and sometimes moms (you are lucky). When my boys reach that age...years and years from now....I will MAKE SURE they brush their teeth for the ladies!

ok I got a little nauseated watching the first one...I guess I should avoid home videos for awhile. BUT I went ahead and watched the others anyway and they are so funnY! J's top is really cute btw...it looks great on her too.
I LOVE that your ward does this. I think our group would get a kick out of it.
Oh I can't wait 'till J starts dating and you follow their car with the video camera. Mamarazzi indeed! great post!

What a funny video and post! I can't believe you all stay so calm while talking to your teenager about boys!!! That is freaking awesome! I wish I have such a great, open relationship with my daughters when they get that age ( in 3 & 5 short years!!!)

On the other hand, Daddy I know for sure will not be as cool as your husband! =0D

Thanks for the laugh... I definitely needed that!

Oh my gosh, the convo on the way home had me rolling! So darn cute and hilarious!!

I love all the pictures and video. J looks so grown up!!! I wish they did something like this around here. Maybe they will by the time my kiddos are her age! Is this a ward or a Stake thing?

So cute...scary at that age...but still priceless. I loved the dancing...or rhythmic stomping! I love that she wanted to share her night with the grand parents...that speaks volumes of how well you raised her!

This is a very fun blog. I love seeing the pictures that you take. I never remember to pull out my camera. I do have a couple of photos that we need to post soon. Hopefully dad can figure out how. Keep on writing and taking those pictures while Jordon still lets you.

Love Mom

The conversation was funny. It's great for kids to be really open to their moms and dads. That's really cool.

That is adorable!!!

That is so sweet. My daughter doesn't talk too much about boys yet, and I don't think she's ever danced with one, unless you count PE class! But, she's not 13 yet, so I'm sure that will be changing soon.
