Beautiful Lengths Giveaway

Jordan decided to make "the kindest cut of all". Today she had 10 inches of hair cut off to donate to Pantene Beautiful Lengths. In the past she has donated to Locks Of Lovebut they require 12 inches and she was anxious to get a new look for back to school. So we found Pantene Beautiful Lengths and their requirement is only 8 inches. J met them in the middle, she said, "my hair grows so fast go for it!" I am proud of her. The stylist kept reminding her that 10 inches was a lot and that her hair would be really short. Jordan kept saying, "it is for someone who has lost their hair, so that's OK, mine will grow." Funny/sweet/sad story...the first time J asked to donate her hair it was around the time of Hurricane Katrina, she had just turned 10 so she didn't really have a grasp what she was saying when she said, "I want to donate my hair to someone who may have lost theirs in Hurricane Katrina." We all thought the sentiment behind her idea was sweet, then one of my African American friends told me she thought their might be a whole lot of "sisters who DID lose their hair in the flood." VERY funny/sad...but i digress.

Did you know it takes 6 donations of at least 8 inches to make a wig? Wanna join Jordan's crusade and donate? If you do and blog about it (linking back to us) you will be entered in a contest for a package of hair goodness (it's a surprise, but you will love it!). Actually just getting the word out would be great....so if have no hair to donate but wanna win you can link back to us on your own blog, let me know and i will enter you in the drawing. IF you donate hair AND link back to us you will be entered another 5 times (that will seriously up your chances, do it)!!Entries can be made until Sept 1...so join the fun, help someone in need, be an example to others AND be eligible to win a prize! FUN!!
Before (not the best pic...we were racing out the door)
the back...oh that gorgeous hair!
the first ponytail cut (she sectioned it into 4 ponytails)
10 inches of beautiful hair to send off tomorrow
the cute cut! (i caught her as she was getting ready for bed)
she was right in the middle of writing in her "Love Notes Book" to Daddy
SOOOOO CUTE!! (and so grown up looking..*sigh*)
So what do you think? Gonna play? Got 8 inches of hair to donate?!

What a sweetheart! And her new 'do is darling. She looks fabulous! I only have about 6 inches, and if I cut that off, I'd be bald. My hair grows so slowly. But... I have a stepdaughter who might do it. We'll see! Great post!

SuperCoolMom said...

She is such a sweet, generous girl! Love her new cut! Darling!

Leeann said...

Oh, I don't even have 8 inches of hair yet...let alone 8 inches to donate! :) Hit me up in another 2 years! :)

I love her new 'do! My daughter did this in July. She donated 1o inches to Locks of Love. Your little girl just looks adorable!!

MomOf3 said...

Oops! It must have been at least 12 inches - my future sister in law cut it so I am sure she got enough to send. :)

Kelly said...

That is so great and sweet of her to do that. My niece has done that once and plans on doing it again this fall. Maybe I'll do it some day too. My hair is too short at this point.

BTW I loooooove the new look! She was beautiful before but she looks so mature(in a cute way)now.

8 inches would be a buzz cut for me - but I LOVE the idea! Way to go J! She looks great!

Wow, that is so special and inspiring and beautiful and...well, give J a great big hug and tell her I am proud of her! Her hair IS so beautiful and so is her new cut. God bless her! I only wish me or anyone in my family had hair to give but we don't. :-(

Love ya, Sniz

I love you,

I donated my hair to Locks of Love about 3 years ago. I have been thinking of doing it again- though I would have to let it grow some more first. Maybe I will do the Pantene one next time around.....but, like I said, I will have to let it grow out a bit more first.

J's new look is awesome!! Hope school went well!

The first time I ever cut The Princess's hair we donated it to Locks of Love. It was beautiful blonde ringlets....to her behind. The stylist BEGGED me not to do it...and then cried. I did not cry until I got her home and saw how grown she looked!

Great cause!

great job Jordan...I love your new cute, it is adorable!!

So I'm not sure I have 8 inches to donate. I'm soo afraid to cut my hair to short. But I am totally ready to cut it and to cut several inches. If I have 8 inches to do it I would love to donate. I just have to get brave and cut it lol (I've always had long hair).

Kevin and Brandi said...

I failed to mention that Jordan looks great! She looks so grown up! I love that hairstyle on her!

P.S. my girls did it about 2 years ago and they are just now enjoying having their long hair back. Kenna donated 12 inches. They love doing it and it made them feel so good. I'm sure they will do it again soon.

Can I just say this post brought tears to my eyes? What a sweet little girl!! My mom had radiation therapy etc when she had cancer and lost her hair and would've loved to have the donation of such pretty hair. Then, my SIL has alopecia and is completely bald and it's because of sweet girls like Jordan, she is able to have beautiful wigs! Thanks JORDAN for your selflessness and love! Love the new look as well!

Andrea said...

OH! MY! GOODNESS! Just when I think this girl can't possibly get more amazing...she goes and does something like this!!

Not only is it a sincerely generous gift -- but her new 'do' looks really cute too!!

I love the new look Jordan! What a great way to start school! Can I be grandfathered into the contest since I donated my hair back in December?

http://happilyshovelingwaterwithapitchfork.blogspot.com/2007/11/i-liked-you-just-way-you-were.html

I don't know if I will donate again. I have really gotten used to my short hair and I am starting to feel like I am too old for long hair!

Alisa said...

I love your new haircut Jordan! You look darling and OLDER! Good for you for sending it to such a great cause.

Very sweet of her and her bob looks cute! My oldest did Locks of Love in March and now she's growing it out again...I think it's so sweet how they want to help!

Jamie said...

I am in the process of growing mine out so that I too can donate it when it gets long enough. Congrats to J for thinking of others out there. And like my stylist told me once when I bleached my hair a little bit too blonde..."It's just hair, it'll grow back." but for some thats not the case.

Jordan is not only beautiful in appearance, but she also has a beautiful heart. You must be so proud of her.

My youngest daughter donated to Locks-of-Love when she was 6 years old. It was something she really wanted to do and something we'll never forget.

It really is wonderful to be able to see our children grow in character.

What a selfless thing for Jordan to do.

I see bad kids on the news all the time. When are they going to air the good ones.

You are raising a good kid.

Jonette said...

Good job to both mom and daughter. You've raised a lovely lady, and I'm sure this is something she'll take with her into her full bloom. Hugs to the two of you!

Brandy said...

How generous and giving of her! It's really inspiring to see kids want to do things like this. Unfortunately, I don't have that much hair...getting it cut every 5 weeks keeps it from being too long.

Love the new do!

hellosweetworld said...

Cute new hair cut! And what a great way to help others. Happy SITS day!

Erin said...

That's so sweet of her to donate. I remember thinking how great it was that they only required 8" instead when I first heard of them. I think it was when Hilary Swank let Oprah cut her hair! LOL

Alas, I have no hair to donate...as you can see by my picture ;) So glad SITS featured you today. I've stopped by before and found your blog to be quite refreshing. Not to mention I love your layout.

WTG J! My youngest daughter donated to Locks of Love about 8 years ago. We photo-documented it and it's so nice to have that to look back on.

Janna said...

What a great idea! I wanted to donate mine to locks of love a while ago but it was too short, and my hair is too short now to do that, but maybe when it grows out again....

Speaking as a cancer survivor, I know the kind of blessing it is to have this sort of sacrifice made on the part of someone else...especially someone so young and beautiful!

Doh! I was totally going to donate my hair and your reminded me I forgot and got my hair trimmed last week! I'll have to try to remember again in 6 months. Your daughter ROCKS for doing it at a time in life when appearance is such a major part of your identity.

jori-o said...

I wasn't reading you back when you originally posted this, but Imy daughter chopped her hair for Locks of Love right around the same time. It is sweet to see these little girls giving.

JessicaMarie said...

That is so sweet. She's such a blessing. There are so few people willing to be that giving. Can't say I'm brave enough to take the plunge myself at this point, but she definitely got me thinking about it!

My oldest has donated twice to locks of love. Her hair grows soooo fast. My youngest on the other hand...it's just too thin and wispy. But you are right...they do look so grown up with it cut short!

Michele said...

What a sweet, sweet gesture. The cut is so cute and perky and makes her look so grown up. And, what pretty hair she has.

Leah said...

What a great girl you raised! I hope that I can teach my boys as well.... maybe not with donateing their hair... well if it gets long ok. But I hope I can raise them with seof awareness for others...

This whole thing was just to say I'm impressed.

Michelle said...

Wow, that's so great of her to do that. I am actually growing out my hair a liiiiiiittle more so I can do locks of love (except I'm not going to tell anyone I'm doing it). It's not quite as long as what your daughter's is, so I know I've got a bit to go, but I'm also willing to go much shorter in my haircut so I figure that will help.

I love her sentiment. Great girl you're raising there! (And yes, I know I'm late to the SITS party)

Shannon said...

So cute! And what a great thing she has done.

I've never donated hair myself. I've never had hair that long... once it gets to my shoulders, it will start to get on my nerves and I'll have to go get it cut!

Rachael said...

That is so wonderful that your daughter does that! My sister has done that before. I can't do it because my hair is so fine it gets really horrible if it gets past like chin length, and who would want a wig made out of that anyhow?

Jennifer said...

What a compassionate young lady you have there! I can understand why you are such a proud momma! And the new haircut is adorable! I wish I had 8 inches to donate, but sadly, I don't. Tell your daughter I admire her and to hold onto her caring heart.
Have a very joyful Christmas!
