Back To School

Today was Jordan's first day back to school. Junior High, SEVENTH Grade...wow she is growing up fast...too fast. She is such a great kid, developing her own ideas and opinions about the world and the people in it. She was excited to wear the cute Roxy tee shirt that her Aunt Meg bought her for babysitting the girls during their visit this summer. Tomorrow she will wear the Roxy short sleeved hoodie that Aunt Amy bought her for babysitting her Boys . J is all about her own style this year. I love it and hate it...i mean i am soooo glad that she has her own style, that she will speak up and express her likes and dislikes...but i REALLY wanted her to wear one of her cute dresses for the first day. *sigh* i think i have a teenager here folks. Don't get me wrong i think she is ADORABLE and she felt great leaving for school today in all her cuteness and that is what really matters.

J really begged for JanSport backpack this year. Most of the kids at her school have the rolling kind, because their backpacks weigh about 50 lbs..not kidding. So we told her that a JanSport was not gonna happen...THEN we found one with wheels...woo hoo!! I love it when we can get her what her heart desires AND still get what she actually needs. Win/Win!

She had a great first day and was super excited that her BFF Emma was in most of her classes this year...WAY. Too. Fun. She had a little bit of homework, nothing too major and had a good laugh when the homework for the parents took more time than hers did! Holy Forms to read fill out...sheesh! It took me FOREVER!

In all her Roxy Cuteness (check the earrings...awesome)

the full look including Converse shoes (thanks Grandma!) looking cool with the JanSport backpack!so tell me...

1. Are you kids making their own fashion choices yet?
2. Is their desire for a "name brand" becoming more important?
3. How much are your kids backpacks weighing?
4. Did you get homework too?

Mine are all pretty easy going about outfits. They would rather not deal with it (boys) or agree with my fashion choices (S.) for the most part.

And YES! Holy List of Rules, Batman! How many times do they have to make us sign our lives away? Yes, I have read and understand these requirements and classroom expectations, and Yes, I will beat my children (or at least ground them) if they step even one toe out of line!

J. looks absolutely adorable in her Cali Casual outfit. Love the backpack! No wheels allowed at our schools - too bulky. At least I think that's what student/parent/teacher compact #27 said ;D

my 11 yr old is def going her own way w her style....she hates being part of the crowd. today she was a bit worried because no one else dresses like her at school. but, she was confident and pulled it off. she's not too much into name brands..yet. as far as backpacks go, my oldest daughter's is always heavy, but she refuses rolling backpacks. the youngest has no such aversion. LOL and omgoodness...TONS of things to sign.

Picking out their own clothes, yes, now a days they are just about buying their own clothes. hahaha Well, my rules still apply though. Even if they do buy them I turn into my mom and say "As long as you live in my house..." You know how that ends. :)

Why can't they keep the same forms they had last year? If nothing changed then why do I have to do it again. Why does the school need me to fill out the same stuff 3 times. Do they not have a copy machine? or geez computers?

My kids like name brands, but they don't just have to have it. They are more afraid someone is going to have what they have, so it has to be original. Sometimes original is even more expensive than name brand!!

aarrgghh teenagers

Oh my daughters know that they wear what i say. the boys too. the downside is i have to get their clothes for them everyday(thus the family closet). mine are still young. and they had more opinions about brands when they were younger than they do now(Peyton refused to wear anything that didn't say GAP). but i ONLY buy really cool stuff. surfer or skater brands, basic solids, classics. at discount or thrift stores. yes. i do love a bargain. Ross had a bunch of Roxy girl stuff this year. for CHEAP! jackets for $15 bucks

Jordan looks so pretty all ready for 7th grade! My daughter does not really care about brand names at this point (2nd grade) and I am not going to encourage that!

My twins start 7th grade August 25th. Junior high here starts in 6th grade, but the 7th grade teachers will take some getting used to. They're usually less child-centered than the 6th grade teachers.

My son doesn't pay much attention to what he wears. I kinda wish he did! My daughter is making her own choices. She won't wear dresses or skirts to school without leggings underneath because of phys ed class. She doesn't HAVE to have the designer stuff, but she likes some of it. I'm glad it doesn't rule her the way it did me at that age.

Jordan looks so cute! But you've reminded me we still have to go get the Converse before school starts.

Lyndsy isn't making any real fashion choices yet but she sure has an opinion on what shoes she wears and which jammies she puts on each night. Her choices are mostly fit/comfort based yet.

I laughed at the "more HW for parents" thing. I purposely tell my kids that on the first day of school because I swear that's the only reason they remember to give it to their parents!

Dude and Princess are both making their own fashion choices . . . if it's Camo, Dude will wear it :-) Princess is obviously making her own choices because I am so NOOOTTTT a girly girl . . . but she loves dresses and pink and frilly :-)

Name Brands - nope, not yet. I do buy them decent shoes though - I realized that I could buy 3 pair of cheapo shoes in the same amount of time that one good pair lasts, so I go with the better quality now - within price reason of course.

Dude is too young to have to schlep around tons of stuff in a backpack, but the middle school and high school get 2 sets of books - one to LEAVE at home and one to LEAVE at school in their classrooms (no lockers, either) - so there's no schlepping of anything other than gym clothes and paper most of the time. Pretty cool setup if you ask me!

We'll see . . . I'll probably have homework tonight when Dude gets home from his first day ;-)

I LOVE LOVE LOVE J's haircut! She's so adorable with any haircut (man that girl just has beautiful hair!) . . . but the short look is awesome . . . and what a great thing to donate. I hope Princess will be willing to donate hers when it gets long enough.

Well, Ashlyn often makes her own fashion choices, but they usually are mix matched outfits because she wants her princess shirt with her crazy flower skirt or her soccer shirt with her hot pink shorts- but hey, if she dresses herself- I will deal with it ;) I am sure when she is a teenager she will be like J and wanting to wear her own things.

I always have so many papers to send home with the kids on the first day - all those official forms that need filled in- I always tell the kids it is homework for their parents- they love that their parents have homework.

MA started 7th grade today too. She just had a 1/2 day and it was just the 7th graders. All grades go tomorrow. MA is particular about her style, but not necessarily name brands. Last year her backpack was awful!!! I'm hoping it won't be as bad this year. We'll just have to wait and see.

Jordan looks so cute and love the new do. I can't believe how much hair she grew! I wish my girl's could grow hair like that but it looks so stringy when it gets that long. It's such a wonderful cause.

Back to school already? And in Junior high already? I vividly remember those days ... some were good :) !!

1. My 7 year old daughter is making a few fashion choices.

2. Name brand? So-so,not so much.

3. Second grade doesn't provide that much weight :) !!

4. Growing up back in the 80's and 90'2, I always had a ton of homework and heavy backpacks and a locker.

Sounds like Jordan is off to a great year. My daughter is only 1 but I wonder about that age where she has her own opinions that might be different than mine, expressing them, defending them, etc. It excites me and freaks me out. This motherhood gig isn't easy.

She looks great and I LOVE her hair! As for fashion choices, Kya is already starting to have a mind of her own!

J's hair is ADORABLE and she looks fan-stinkin'-TASTIC on her first day of seventh grade (HOLY CRUMBS you have a seventh grader!!)!

Gracie is already making fashion choices but they are...um...funny. And not fit for school (like the hula skirt she made out of paper towels today for example). So I just buy her clothes and then try to talk them up so she thinks they are awesome. Its working so far.

Isaac is just a boy and doesn't really care. But no short shorts (whew!) and not three button shirts unless its Sunday. Whatever.

Look how cute she looks! I hope she had a great first day!

Takes me back to South valley. So many ladies, so little me to share. You can't please everyone, but I came pretty close.

What I'm trying to say is that these pics remind me of my time in JR High; a short span during which I went from stunningly handsome to illicitly attractive.
